Attention Gin Lovers: A Gin And High Tea Event Is Coming To Perth!

Attention Gin Lovers: A Gin And High Tea Event Is Coming To Perth!

by Dominique Shields @ The A List | The Urban List

If there’s one undeniable fact in the world right now it’s that gin is having a moment in a big way and, IMO, it’s about damn time. Gin always keeps it classy, gin has never given us a heinous hangover (here’s looking at you, tequila) and gin has never let us down. That’s why when we heard that Pan Pacific Perth is combining our two favourite things—gin and high tea (because the smaller the cake the more you can eat, right???)—we appropriately lost our shizz.

Alas, this won’t be just any old high tea, no no. Because gin is best served with, well, everything, all of your fave snackos adorning the gorgeous three-tiered cake stands will be infused with a hint of this botanical tipple. Please take a moment to let this sink in.

And as if this couldn’t get any better (spoiler: it does) there will be gin cocktails too, crafted by the masters at West Winds, Archie Rose, Giniversity and Bombay Sapphire so you know that it’s going to be legit.

Gin & High Tea will be kicking it off this weekend and continuing every Saturday and Sunday until 11 March with four seatings a day so yeah, it’s kind of the ultimate girls day out. And for just $65 per person, this is an absolute steal.

If you’re a massive gin lover like us, or just really love a good high tea, then you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out on this amazing experience.

What: Gin & High Tea Where: Origins Restaurant When: Kicking off Saturday 3 February and then every Saturday and Sunday until 11 March Book by emailing Pan Pacific

Perth’s Best Sausage Rolls

Perth’s Best Sausage Rolls

by Kirsty Petrides @ The A List | The Urban List

Is there anything better than a fresh sausage roll? For breakfast, for lunch, for dinner, for hangovers—they hit the spot every single time.

If you’re in need of some perfectly cooked meat, seasoned with flavour and encased in fresh crispy pastry, look no further—here are some of Perth’s best sausage rolls.

Chez Jean Claude Patisserie

Various Locations

This patisserie is an institution, and rightly so—their baked goods are some of the best you’ll find in this fair city of ours. And none more so than their mini German sausage rolls. As if the authentic German sausage wasn’t enough, when it’s encased in Jean Claude pastry, it’s a next level sossie roll.

The Woodfired Baker

The Woodfired Baker makes some very unique and tasty sausage rolls for its loyal following. Flavour combinations include pork, apple and fennel; or lamb and harissa sausage rolls. Whichever one you choose, you will not be disappointed.

Joe’s Bakery

West Perth

Joe's Bakery is a popular lunch spot for West Perth office dwellers, and you can understand why—all their savouries are made fresh in-house from absolute scratch using top quality ingredients. So next time you’re in West Perth, treat yourself to one of Perth's best sausage rolls at Joe's.

Bakers Hill Pie Shop

Bakers Hill

Obviously, a town called Bakers Hill is going to have some decent bakers. While the Bakers Hill Pie Shop specialises in pies (the clues were there) they also dish up some incredible homemade sausage rolls that are pretty much worth the road trip.

The Olde Shed Cafe

Ok, again, it's not in Perth, but if you're a pastry fan willing to go the distance, make The Olde Shed Cafe in Balingup your next destination. They’ve got all the savoury pastries you can imagine, and their sausage rolls will be your new favourite food group.

Mary Street Bakery

Mount Lawley, West Leederville & Allendale Square

Do we even need to justify why Mary Street is on this list? Probably not. Arguably one of the most popular bakehouses in Perth, the team here know what they’re doing when it comes to pastry and their sausage rolls sitting pretty behind their front counter are no exception.

Pinjarra Bakery

Maddington, Pinjarra and Waroona

The people at Pinjarra Bakery claim their sossie rolls are like no other sausage roll you’ve ever had. Big call? Yes, but they are backing it up big time. Theirs are filled with rich beef sausage mince, onions, special secret seasoning and all wrapped up in their own flaky pastry.

Fremantle Bakehouse

When somewhere specialises in sausage rolls, you can be confident that your mind is about to be blown. The team at Freo Bakehouse create all their sausage rolls daily in-house and serve them with a side salad and home-made dressing for diners.

New Norcia Bakery

Subiaco, Claremont and Mount Hawthorn

New Norcia Bakery in Mt Hawthorn (where it all began) have not one but two ovens working in tandem to produce a range of bread, pastries, biscuits and cakes. Such is the demand for their baked goods! They use time honoured baking practices and have a very strict policy of only hiring skilled bakers, so you know the sausage rolls are going to be great.

Abhi’s Bakehouse

South Fremantle

Abhi’s have been providing the people of Perth with amazing baked goods since the 90’s. Among all the amazing items they offer like bread, sourdough, sweets and pastries, they also do one of Perth's best sausage rolls.

Wild Bakery

South Fremantle

The hip team at Wild Bakery claim to have the hottest bread in Fremantle, so we aren't surprised by how good their sausage rolls are. The people in the kitchen are all about true flavours, wild fermentation and enjoyment of real food, so you know you won’t be disappointed.

An Aussie Island Is Throwing A Crayfish Festival

An Aussie Island Is Throwing A Crayfish Festival

by Ange Law @ The A List | The Urban List

Deep breaths team. We’ve just found the food festival of your dreams. This April, some of Australia’s best chefs (and foragers, we might add) are heading to Flinders Island. Where the heck is Flinders Island? Let us tell you. It’s a small island off the coast of Tasmania and if fresh seafood, native produce and a cheeky tipple sounds like your ideal weekend situation, you’ll want to buy tickets to this one right now.

Longsong chef, David Moyle has enlisted some of Australia’s best native chefs for the island’s inaugural Food and Crayfish Festival which will culminate in a beachside long table lunch on 14 April. We’re talking about James Vile (Biota), Mark LaBrooy (Three Blue Ducks), and Matt Stone and Jo Barrett (Oakridge Wines). They’ll even be showing up a week early to source the local ingredients personally.

Oh, and by the looks of things, you’ll even be able to glamp on the island and yeah, this festival just got even more beautiful (we weren’t sure it was possible either). Also (yes, there’s more), because the islanders are just all ‘round great humans, they’ll be lending chairs from their own dining tables so you have somewhere to park it while you feast.

There is literally nothing more Australian that heading to a secret beach on a lush island and scoffing shellfish all day long. You know it’s true. More details here

What: Flinders Island Food & Crayfish Festival When: 14 – 15 April Where: Flinders Island Cost: $240 pp

Bởi: Haney

by Haney @ Các phản hồi luận về: Bún chả Hà Nội

8 Hacks For A Better Night’s Sleep

8 Hacks For A Better Night’s Sleep

by Georgia Jayne Young @ The A List | The Urban List

Oh how we love sleep. We would even go so far as to say there is literally nothing better than a great night’s sleep and nothing quite as terrible as a shitty night’s sleep. Waking up feeling refreshed and well rested is the absolute best way to start the day. Try adding these eight super simple sleep hacks into your bedtime routine and prepare to slay the day!

Limit Caffeine

This one’s pretty obvious, to be sure. We all know that drinking coffee right before bed is not conductive to a good night’s sleep, but did you know that you should be avoiding all forms of caffeine four - six hours before bed? Yup, that includes post-dinner special hot chocolates.

Have A Cuppa

We’re talking the herbal kind of cuppa, specifically camomile tea as when you drink this tea your body experiences an increase in the chemical glycine which is known to relax nerves and muscles, acting as a mild sedative. We are obsessing over the delish Lemon & Honey Camomile Tea with Manuka Leaf from Ti Ora, helping us off into a blissful slumber each and every night.

Control Exposure To Light

So, we know you may be used to scrolling through the entire internet each night while lying in bed but, believe it or not, this is probably not helping you to get the best sleep ever. Try limiting your exposure to light leading up to sleep time and if you aren’t prepared to give up your nightly Insta-stalking regime, at least turn the brightness down on your phone.

Use A Sleeping Mask

Complete darkness is the ideal condition for a great sleep, so channel your inner Audrey Hepburn and find a stylish eye-mask to block out the world and sleep the night away.

We don’t know about you, but our lives are hectic af and sometimes we have approximately 127 thoughts flying around our minds the minute the lights go out. The best way that we’ve found to deal with this annoying phenomena? Write that shit down. You’ll be surprised how much emptier your brain feels.

Avoid Naps

Okay, so naps may be one of our absolute favourite pass time activities (what’s more luxurious than sleeping in the day time?!) but they are definitely not good news when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, sadly.

Take A Supplement

Magnesium is definitely our go-to supplement for a great night’s sleep as the mineral helps to relax muscles and ease nervous tension. We are loving Go Healthy’s Go Magnesium Sleep which has been formulated specifically to support a deep and relaxed sleep—yes please!

Sleep With Your Dog In Your Room

If all else fails, sleep with your dog in your room. Yup, you heard us right: a recent study has shown that people who sleep with their dogs in their room (but not their beds) have a better night’s sleep. We’re assuming that the participants’ dogs didn’t snore.

by Trang @ Các phản hồi luận về: Bún chả Hà Nội

Melbourne’s Cult Burger Joint Huxtaburger Is Coming To Perth This Year!

Melbourne’s Cult Burger Joint Huxtaburger Is Coming To Perth This Year!

by Anna Franklyn @ The A List | The Urban List

2018 is set to be a big year for Perth burger fans. We've already had Short Order Burger Co set up shop in the city, then we had In-N-Out pop up for a day, and now we're getting Melbourne's cult burger joint Huxtaburger in Perth this year!

After opening six restaurants in Melbourne, Huxtaburger has chosen P-town as the home for its next burger joint and it will be joining the legions of amazing restaurants set to open in Hibernian Place on Hay Street in the CBD.

If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Huxtaburger in Melbourne, then let us tell you what you've been missing out on. Think sweet bread buns filled with grass-fed beef, jalapenos, sriracha mayo and all the other good stuff, or go for the fried chicken with jalapeno mayo and slaw. Of course, they do your classic burgers and cheeseburgers—and gosh darn they are good—and if you're vego they've got you covered too with a couple of killer veggie options—spicy bean and quinoa patty anyone?

But the burger that will have you lining up on opening day has got to be the cheesus—double grass-fed beef patty, double cheese, cheesy mayo, mustard, tomato sauce and pickles.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that they'll be bringing their ice cream burger and, more importantly, their happy hour to Perth, because $5 beers and wines are what we're all about.

While you wait for these guys to arrive, here are Perth's best burgers.

Another Bingo Rave Is Coming To Perth And This Time Boyzlife Is Coming Too!

Another Bingo Rave Is Coming To Perth And This Time Boyzlife Is Coming Too!

by James Shackell @ The A List | The Urban List

Yes, you read right Perth—another bingo rave night is coming, and this time they're bringing the Boyzlife boyz Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy to P-town! In case you missed the first Bongo's Bingo last year, we’re here to teach you what a bingo rave actually is. You’re probably picturing your nan right about now, but put that out of your mind, because poor nan probably wouldn’t enjoy this one.

The concept is pretty simple: it’s a bingo night slash rave. So you play bingo...while you rave to those sweet Boyzlife tunes. Or perhaps rave while you bingo. We’re not 100% sure. What we DO know is that the last shows in Australia sold out in under five minutes flat, so you’ll probably want to hover over that ‘Buy’ button like a vulture over a wildebeest when the tickets go on sale.

There’ll be rave intervals, dance-offs, cash prizes, non-cash prizes and a hell of a lot of bingo. Bongo’s hosts will preside over the game, calling out numbers, playing sing-a-long tunes, and generally getting into mischief. Food and booze will both be flowing with the show kicking off at 6:00pm. Basically, grandma’s bingo night down at the RSL this is NOT.

Tickets will be available online on Monday 5 February at 6pm, so you'd better bookmark this link and put a reminder in your calendar. You can get a taste of what you’re in for here

It’s a full moon, but it’s the second one in a month, which makes it a blue moon. Yes, as in, ‘once in a blue moon’, which in reality is a weird saying because these are apparently not that uncommon. Then it’s also a super moon, which is a full moon at it’s closest point to Earth in a single orbit, making it look huge. And, finally, it’s a blood moon, which is basically a fancy word for a full lunar eclipse, coined because Earth casts a red shadow onto the moon as they come into alignment with each other. Or something.

While my explanation of this rare and exciting event might be sub-par, I promise I’ve got the goods when it comes to where and when to watch it. We Perthites are going to be able to see ‘totality’ (the part where the moon is red) start at 8.51pm, ending at 10.08pm. If you want to see the part where Earth’s shadow creeps on the moon, get there at 7pm. So get your tripods out and schedule your dinner in early: here’s where to lay down your picnic rug for the Super Blue Blood Moon in Perth.

Monument Hill

Mosman Park

The highest point of Buckland Hill in Mosman Park, Monument Hill provides sweeping views to the east which is where you’ll see the moon commence totality, low in the sky not long after sunset. With views of the city and the ocean you’ll feel totally immersed, and the best part is there shouldn’t be too much ‘city light’ around which is apparently ideal conditions for viewing this bad boy.

Bay View Park

Mosman Park

For the water babies among us, Bay View Park provides some of the most secluded and, more importantly, some of the darkest spots along the river for your Super Blue Blood Moon picnic. Who’s bringing the moon-themed cupcakes?

Bayswater Riverside Gardens

Seeing as we are getting slightly stitched up in Perth and seeing the moon quite early, the east side of the city is probably going to allow for better viewing than anywhere. The Bayswater Riverside Gardens with its big grass areas has some pretty damn good picnic spots, and it’s also got a bunch of interesting walking and cycle tracks if you want to incorporate some exercise into the whole outing.

Point Walter Sandbar

Point Walter

If you just wanna do the ‘pop out and see it for ten minutes’ job, then the Point Walter Sandbar might be a good spot for you to see this Super Blue Blood Moon in Perth. Take a walk out as far as the river’s tide will allow, check the moon with its reflection on the water in full glory, then scurry back to the car. There are plenty of spots to park up along the river there too, if you decide it’s worth staying for.

Kings Park

Perth City

Kings Park is a never-fail when it comes to seeing anything in the sky. The best spots to see this particular event are right along the Fraser Avenue lawns with city views galore, or you could venture up the DNA tower if you’re feeling the cosmic energy. Either way, we’re sure the night will be filled with lots of gushing and the old chorus of ‘we should really come here more often!’

Lesmurdie Falls National Park

If you’ve been meaning to get out to the Darling Scarp, now’s the time, because there will probably be no better place to see this galactic spectacle than on our eastern escarpment. Lesmurdie Falls National Park is a particularly good spot because there’s nice open parkland with BBQ’s if you wanna’ make a night of it, and it’s only a short walk up to the viewing platform so you can boost your views.

Hertha Reserve

If you want to make it to the official Stargazer’s Party—that’s what I’m calling it—this is the place to be. The GDC Observatory and the Astronomy Education Services are teaming up to put on a free community event for the people of Perth to really soak in all this event has to offer. They’ll even have telescopes and big screen TVs!

Yokine Hill

Yokine locals are gifted with one of Perth’s highest points—Yokine Hill reaches 83m above sea level and is the perfect spot to watch the moon paint our beautiful sky red! While not allowing for much picnicking, it’s a great spot to set up a tripod or stand with a craned neck, iPhone in hand and capture the moon in full view.

Reabold Hill

The highest natural point on our metro coastal plain, you can’t go past Reabold Hill as a spot to watch the Super Blue Blood Moon. You get incredible views from up here, especially—and we’re not condoning it—if you climb up onto the roof of the viewing platform. You can see the ocean—sometimes Rotto—the city skyline, darling scarp and glimpses of the Swan River. It’s crazy. The big red moon’s just gonna be the cherry (ha! cherry) on top.

Prince Lane

Perth City

If you want to take in the lunar views with a cocktail in hand, this beaut rooftop haunt is the spot. If you haven’t made it there yet, the Prince Lane rooftop bar is a literal urban oasis, with glittering lights and greenery set against the backdrop of the city. You could grab one of their dee-licious frozen blood orange martinis to match the moon!

The Standard

If, again, you’re like me, and you’ve already booked Fringe tickets for the night without realising that it’s actually the universe who’s putting on the show, never fear: let The Standard’s rooftop bar be your urban vantage point. Offering up pretty wide open views of the sky as far as Northbridge bars go, The Standard will easily double up as a great viewing platform and a place to enjoy a champas before your show or a nightcap after it.

If none of those are going to work for you, head to the outdoor cinemas and pray you can catch a glimpse.

20 Things Only Parsley Haters Understand

20 Things Only Parsley Haters Understand

by Anna May @ The A List | The Urban List

Coriander haters are a privileged bunch.

Everyone understands, or at least sympathises with their detest for the food. They have their own Facebook group dedicated to their common hatred. But what about the rest of us that shudder at the mere thought of a rogue sprig of slutty parsley in our food, or worse, mouth? Where’s our political campaign to ban a piece of greenery? Not anywhere I can see right now from my comfortable spot on the couch, that’s for sure.

Sing it with me, fellow parsley haters. You know the tune.

Parsley is disgusting. It’s coriander’s bitchier, more hideous sister. She is often overlooked, but don’t let her fool you.

As a direct result, you strongly believe that ALL garnishes should be listed on menus.

Because you’ve lost count of the times when you’ve ordered a seemingly delicious dish and been met with a forest of parsley on top. Why didn’t you just sneeze on it, mate?

You’ve taken to telling people you’re allergic to it, just to ensure none of it ends up in or around your mouth.

Nothing upsets you more than biting into an innocent-looking salad and then realising those leaves were actually parsley.

And then you realise they’re all chopped up and thrown throughout your lunch because some selfish, careless hooligan went all Parsley Bae when making it.

Drunken kebabs are a minefield when it comes to the risk of tabbouleh.

“Why don’t you just pick it off?” BECAUSE I CAN STILL TASTE THE POISON, SUSAN.

The world understands, nay, sympathises with coriander haters. But parsley haters are met with confusion.

“What do you mean? It’s tasteless!” they will cry, speaking a language of the perpetually wrong.

“No, Grandma, it tastes like old grass, with notes of ruining my day”, you scream before storming out of the retirement home.

You’re considering adding “well-versed in the ability to tell flat-leaf parsley from coriander” on your CV.

You’ve reported at least five people on Instagram for posting otherwise delicious dishes that are topped with pars-*pauses to gag*-ley.

Speaking of which, you’ve seriously considered writing a strongly-worded letter to Woolies to inform them that a sprig of parsley on the steaks in their butcher counter doesn’t make them any more appealing.

Your Bumble profile specifically states that anyone who enjoys the P-Monster should immediately swipe left and then enter therapy.

You’re aware that there’s a Parsley Bay in Sydney. And you boycott it. For good reason.

People always tell you that chewing on parsley can freshen your breath.

But you tell them you’d rather smell like Hagrid’s toe cheese that chew on it like some commoner.

Green juices are mostly off limits. For many reasons, but mostly because parsley is green and it’s too much of a risk.

Remember Lurleen Lumpkin from The Simpsons? The country singer Homer manages? Whenever someone questions your hatred for parsley, think of her song, ‘No-one Understands You, But I Do’, and remember this article. Parsley haters unite.

Hate coriander too? Then, you'll love this

PSA: Vegan Camembert Exists And No, We’re Not Kidding

by Ange Law @ The A List | The Urban List

What is the number one thing people say when you tell them you’re vegan? Say it with me team: ohhhh, I could never give up cheese. Well, guys, now you don’t have to give up cheese because a couple of geniuses have gone and invented camembert that looks exactly like, well, camembert.

We know vegan cheese isn’t really a new thing, but vegan cheese that’s genuinely good? Now that’s something worth talking about. It looks like this bad boy is only available in France but we still see this as a sign that the tides are a-changin’ and it’s really only a matter of time until this beauty is available in Australia. Right? Not only does Les Petits Veganne sell camembert (although, that’s clearly what we’re most amped for), they also boast an entire range complete with blue cheese, turmeric cheese, and a fresh garlic cheese too.

What are you still doing here? You have a cheese board to make (and a flight to book).

Meanwhile, these Japanese foot-long fries just landed as well.

Cooked It | How To Make The Perfect Goon Punch At Home

Cooked It | How To Make The Perfect Goon Punch At Home

by Ben Tyers @ The A List | The Urban List

Sometimes it can be hard to transform three litres of Coolabah Crisp Dry White into something that doesn’t taste like it could remove stubborn mould from bathroom grout. Unfortunately, if you’ve spent all your money on Falls tickets and parking fines like the rest of us, then you don’t really have a choice when it comes to wetting your whistle. You can, however, choose to make it taste less like bathroom cleaner.

Here’s how to make the best, most delicious Goon punch at home.

1 white Goon bag 2 bottles of mixed berry Passion Pop 1 bottle of vodka 2 tins of pineapple juice 1 bottle of mango juice 1 bottle of lemonade 1 mango, sliced and diced 1 punnet of raspberries 1 tin of passionfruit pulp

First, replace the pillows on your bed. If you’re drinking boxed wine then you probably have no idea that the shelf life of a run-of-the-mill polyester pillow is six months. So you’ve probably been sleeping on a bag of dead skin cells for three years. Pop to the shops to grab the all-important Gunch ingredients. Make sure there’s a bottle-o nearby as 80% of the ingredients will get you arrested at a Wiggles concert. Head home and slice the mango. Take the lids off all the cans and bottles. Break the seal on the Goon box. POUR EVERYTHING INTO A LARGE LAUNDRY BUCKET TO THE TUNE OF GIVE ME EVERYTHING TONIGHT BY PITBULL. Take a picture of it with a Kodak and Instagram it with the caption #tookmylifefromnegativetopositive.

All The Best Free Things To Do In Perth This February

All The Best Free Things To Do In Perth This February

by Emma Pegrum @ The A List | The Urban List

Kind of like the little sister of January, February often gets a bad wrap. You’re back at work, it’s the last month of summer, you're broke as anything and reality is setting in. But alas, do not despair. We Perthites have absolutely zero to complain about in February—in fact, it could be fair to say it’s the single best month to live in this glorious city.

With Fringe World and the Perth Festival happening throughout the entire month, there are plenty of free events to get along to, and there’s still so much more—festivals, markets, the first footy game to be played at our new stadium (yeah the girls!), concerts and surf.

So before you bury your head in your desk once and for all, here’s to one last hurrah—here are all the free things to do in Perth this February.

Fringe World | 26 January—25 February

The weird and wonderful Fringe World Festival needs no introduction. You absolutely cannot let February go by without carving out a couple of nights with friends or fam to soak up all that this homegrown festival offers. While you could spend an absolute bomb on Fringe shows, head right this way to find all the free events on offer this year.

Perth Festival | 9 February—4 March

It goes without saying that you absolutely must attend at least one event on the Perth Festival calendar, if not multiple. There’s so much happening, we can’t even begin to sum it up. There are plenty of amazing ticketed events worth your hard earned dollies, but if you're not willing to part with them (we geddit), check out these free events

Hayao Miyazaki Studio Ghibli Film Festival | 1 - 25 February

If you missed out last year, the Miyazaki Film Fest is back, alongside Perth Festival. With free screenings almost every night of Feb at the Northbridge Piazza, you can catch all your Studio Ghibli faves with either English or Japanese audio! If you aren’t sure what the heck we’re talking about, take your first step on your journey as a life-long addict of these films here.

Scarborough Sunset Markets | Every Thursday Night In February

Welp, there’s not much convincing necessary for this one—delicious food, thirst-quenching bevs, live music and pop-up stores, all by the sea at sunset? Why would you want to spend your Thursday night anywhere else? The construction site that has been Scarborough beach has taken a bit of a toll on local businesses and the lifestyle itself, so it’s time to get back out and about and make the most of summer at one of Perth’s most iconic beachfronts!

BYO At Fremantle Markets | Every Friday Night in February

If you haven’t heard, you can now BYO to the Fremantle Markets every Friday night. Yes, you'll have to splurge on a $10 bottle of wine and buy some dinner, but getting to fill your belly with all your favourite eats and enjoy the sweet sounds of vinyl with a live DJ while sipping on your reasonably priced, store-bought vino is priceless.

Mount Hawthorn Hawkers Market | Every Friday Night in February

Mount Hawthorn

We Perthies just can’t go past a food market, can we? There’s nothing like satisfying the watering tastebuds that come from lining up for food by inhaling your freshly made, delicious eats while still standing. The Mt Hawthorn Hawkers Market is no exception, with some of our faves showing up like What The Bao, Shak Shuka and Simply Paella. If you're really trying to pinch your pennies, share some food and then sit back and enjoy this beautiful pocket of Perth with live music.

Harbour Sundays | Every Sunday Night in February

If you haven’t yet realised how damn beautiful the WA Maritime Museum is, now is the time to get down to Harbour Sundays and appreciate. RTRFM is bringing us four free shows in Feb out on the museum’s balcony at sunset, featuring music from a diverse array of genres—they’ve got soul, jazz, Cuban salsa, folk, rock and reggae. What a way to prepare for Monday…

Inglewood Night Markets | Every Monday Night in February

There’s something about ‘that end’ of Beaufort street—it just keeps getting better and better. There’s no better way to enjoy it than wandering through the Inglewood Night Markets on a slow Monday evening, with tasty eats galore. This really is one of the best food markets in Perth and who wants to cook on a Monday, anyway?

AFLW at Optus Stadium | 10 February

Guys, the bloody AFLW is opening footy’s proceedings at the brand new Optus Stadium, with the Fremantle women’s team versing Collingwood in the first ever game of footy the stadium’s seen. With a $2 entry fee that goes straight to charity (seriously women are great), we reckon this is as good as free.

Let’s Go Surfing Day | 17 February

Leighton Beach

Anyone who’s been down to Leighton to volunteer in the water for the Disabled Surfers Association knows how much fun this is. What better way to spend a beautiful, sunny February morning than down at the beach, helping improve the quality of life of disabled Australians through surfing? Stay for the BBQ and awards ceremony and watch the smiles on everyone’s faces grow to breaking point!

Chinese New Year Fair | 18 February

Celebrate all the best our multiculturalism has to offer at this Chinese New Year celebration put on by the Chung Wah Association. Taking up basically all of Northbridge, this party has lion and dragon dancing throughout the day and night on James Street, Lake Street and Roe Street, plus a parade, food stalls and pop-ups and a concert. A great way to set the night off to a roaring start!

Rottnest Channel Swim | 24 February

Yes, we know, a ferry ticket to Rottnest is not even close to being free. But you've got two options, my frugal friends. Find someone who owns a boat and score a ride over there, or just head down to Cott beach to watch the swimmers take off, then go and treat yourself a coffee—because $4 is much cheaper than a ferry ticket.

All The Documentaries You Should Be Watching This Month

All The Documentaries You Should Be Watching This Month

by James Shackell @ The A List | The Urban List

They say truth is stranger than fiction, but those people probably never watched Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone. Nonetheless, there are a stack of excellent docos around right now. Maybe it’s the whole true crime trend, or the fact the world is slowly melting, but people seem to care more about real stuff now. That’ probably a good thing.

Grab the popcorn, guys. These are all the documentaries you should be watching in February.

This story is weird. Icarus follows the film’s maker, Bryan Fogel, as he tries performance-enhancing drugs to try and dope his way through a local cycling event (for research purposes, obvs). It ends with him uncovering a world-shaking drug scandal and helping the head of Russia’s anti-doping program flee to America. 91% on Rotten Tomatoes says it all.

Jiro Dreams Of Sushi

An oldie, but a goodie. If you haven’t seen this one yet, let’s make this the month, eh? Jiro Dreams Of Sushi (great title) follows 85-year-old Tokyo sushi master Jiro Ono, who set up what’s got to be the smallest and the most exclusive Michelin starred restaurant in the world: a 10-seat sushi-only restaurant in a Tokyo subway station.

Faces Places

Faces Places is the story of two French artists (director Agnes Varda and photographer JR) who travelled ‘round rural France, meeting people, taking their photos, and then blowing them up and plastering them in unlikely locations. Part experimental art, part heart-warming tale. It’s also sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is unheard of (even Finding Nemo is on 99% FFS).

Strong Island

Strong Island picked up a Jury Award at Sundance and a swag of other nominations, and it’s generating some serious Oscar Buzz. The film follows the Ford family and their three kids as they navigate the geography of race in modern-day America. Probably not going to have you rolling in the aisles, but it IS essential viewing.

Abacus: Small Enough To Jail

Abacus sounds absolutely insane. It’s the story of a small, family-run Chinese bank in midtown Manhattan, which became the ONLY financial institution to face criminal charges as a result of the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Basically the big banks were ‘too big to fail’ and these guys were ‘small enough to jail’. Go and get woke.

Last Men In Aleppo

Another Oscar nominee, Last Men In Aleppo is the work of Syrian documentary maker Feras Fayyad. This thing is classic boots-on-the-ground reporting—an inside look at the so-called White Helmets, a Syrian civilian organisation who follow military attacks to try and save lives. Confronting, but the reviews are stellar.

Knife Skills

Imagine you’re trying to build a world-class French restaurant in Cleveland. Now imagine most of your staff just got out of prison and have never cooked before. Now imagine you’re opening in two months. Knife Skills is the story of what happened next—the launch of social project Edwin’s Restaurant in Cleveland, USA.

Edith + Eddie

Pro tip: don’t wear mascara to this thing. You will cry. A lot. Edith + Eddie is the story of America’s oldest interracial couple and the family forces trying to tear them apart. Edith (96) and Eddie (95), found love late in life, but now their court-appointed guardians are trying to keep them apart. It’s a confronting look at love, loss and guardianship abuse.

The thing about Heroin(e) is it’s NOT your typical drug doco. Sure, it looks at the little town of Huntington, West Virginia, whose heroine abuse rate is 10x the national average. Poverty, crime and health issues are out of control. But Peabody Award-winning director Elaine McMillion Sheldon takes a deliberately hopeful angle. This isn’t a story about how a town fell apart, it’s the story of how it’s going to pick itself up.

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond

You might have noticed this one floating around your Netflix homepage. Jim & Andy follows the production of the 1999 Andy Kaufman biopic, Man On The Moon. Specifically how Jim Carey drove everyone bonkers by staying in character at ALL times. In a way, he kind of became Andy Kaufman (it’ll make sense when you watch it). Warning: prepare to spiral down a three-hour Andy Kaufman-Jim Carey-REM Wikipedia rabbit hole after watching. We know someone who did this... was us.

10 #Fitspo Health Nuts To Follow On Instagram RN

10 #Fitspo Health Nuts To Follow On Instagram RN

by Rosie Gregory @ The A List | The Urban List

If we're going to spend five hours a day on our phone, we might as well spend a couple of those stalking some #fitspo bosses and *trying* to get motivated. We're a bit over the photo-shopped, booty shots touting yet another brand of protein shaker, so this year, we’re all about following relatable, positive and uplifting peeps in our feeds.

From the resident big names to micro influencers changing up the online scene, here is our list of the top fitspo Instagram accounts to follow right now.

Sarah’s Day

Handle: @sarahs_day Follow for: Pure Positivity, Holistic Fitness And Lols.

She’s YouTube's holistic health princess and with a devoted #sezzysquad of 360k following her every move on Insta, this lifestyle and fitness star will make you want to put down the chocolate and reach for a bliss ball. From her HIIT workout e-book to teaming up with The Health Lab to release her own range of protein balls, this is one fit chick on a mission to inspire—all while keeping up a wild sense of humour and refreshingly positive outlook. Always aiming to stay relatable and down to earth, she has also been documenting her struggles with hormonal health issues lately and we love her even more for it.

And this, my sissy’s... THIS is how I maintain my healthy diet. Sure I overeat and struggle with portion control every now and then, but I genuinely LOVE my diet and get excited over food. I hear so many people opening up about their struggles in sticking to their ‘diet’ or trying to eliminate junk food. I used to think that eating healthy just meant chicken, greens and brown rice ‍♀️ #yawwwwnnn I eat a highly Paleo, plant-based diet which changes with the season and whatever produce is available. I love trying new veggies, fruits and salad combos to keep it fresh and exciting! Pretty much every ingredient here is classified as a superfood in its own right. Purple cabbage and cacao nibs are loaded with antioxidants which fight free radicals and promote cell regeneration. Brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds will help bring a radiant glow to your skin and the salted caramel @loving_earth chocolate which is predominantly virgin cacao butter, an ingredient known to help prevent aging, skin issues and hair loss (I actually use raw cacao butter in the shower as a full body moisteriser ) If you’re feeling demotivated or bored with your healthy diet, I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and try a brand new vegetable or fruit. Enjoying your meals and being excited about food is honestly the one major tip I could give you in terms of maintaining a healthy diet✨

25 Bars You Need To Visit In Berlin

25 Bars You Need To Visit In Berlin

by Emma Pegrum @ The A List | The Urban List

When you land in a city dominated by its late-night, food, drink and fashion scenes, it is hard to go wrong with any bar you might stumble into as you wander the winding streets. But with so much on offer, it can be overwhelming arriving in Berlin and attempting to find the best spots. You sit in one bar, struck with FOMO that you might be missing out on another that’s slightly cooler.

So whether you want to immerse yourself in the raw edge of Berlin’s up and coming east side or admire the minimalist chic of the old west, we’ve got you covered with this by no means exhaustive list of the best bars in Berlin.

Kaffee Mitte

Located close to Rosenthaler Platz, nestled among some of Berlin’s best vintage and antique haunts, Kaffee Mitte is modern, chic and minimalist. Think light pine, polished concrete, clean lines and dangling light globes. Serving up fresh pasta and great coffee by day, and wine, beer and cocktails by night, you won’t be disappointed with the offerings. Far from the electronic beat that seems impossible to escape in Berlin, this is the perfect way to wind down after a long day sight-seeing or shopping.

Common Ground

Not only is Common Ground one of the most conveniently located spots in town (right at Rosenthaler Platz, next to the underground), it is also one of the most stylish. Spacious and with a relaxed atmosphere, you can easily chill here for hours with a delicious cocktail or one of the many international and local beers on offer. The biergarten is a particularly good hang out in summer!

Ballhaus Berlin

This place is truly a piece of Berlin’s old west preserved. Unique in kind in the city, the Ballhaus Berlin is a dance hall paying revived homage to its tradition of hosting ballroom dance parties in the twenties. Steeped in elegance with tall ceilings, beautiful arches and dangling lightbulbs that perfectly diffuse the otherwise red glow of the ballroom, Ballhaus is a step back in time to the raucous nightlife of the 20’s. Stop in for a drink in the gorgeous biergarten or book a seat for an event; either way you will leave feeling dreamy!

We seem to love anything with the mystery and allure of the unmarked entrance, and Tausend is undoubtedly the best in Berlin when it comes to nailing that brief. With a beautiful iron door sitting under a train overpass, this very adult bar is about as exclusive as Berlin gets. Contrary to basically everywhere else in Berlin, you’ll need to dress up to get in, but it’s worth it. The tubular, steel-clad bar will transport you and the drinks are both innovative and delicious—wasabi cocktail, anyone?

Bar 3

The best spot for a sneaky celebrity sighting in Berlin, Bar 3 packs out with slick clientele who roam the streets of Mitte and call this place a favourite. The large, horseshoe shaped bar fills the space out, meaning you can only park up on a bar stool or choose to stand. Order the Kölsch beer from Cologne (a city in Germany’s west) and settle in for the night. Kölsch is served in small glasses and tradition dictates that the barman will continually refill or replace your drink until you abandon it or lay a coaster over the top. Be careful (or don’t be!)

Altes Europa

The simplicity of this place is what makes it so divine. With big front windows that let in all the natural light, basic furnishings and interesting old prints on the walls, this low-key, local favourite is perfect for a mid-afternoon drink that meanders into the night. You can treat yourself to some rather non-low-key Ukrainian vodka, or enjoy the blonde draught beer for something a bit less hectic.

Almost everywhere you go in Berlin, you’ll feel as though it’s unfinished—yet uniquely sexy (as far as construction sites go…). Kim Bar is the epitome of this, which makes it unsurprising that it’s a favourite for the 20-something art crowd that populate the city after dark. Draped in your most nonchalant loose-fitting, monochrome attire, you simply enter, grab a seat from stacked piles and arrange yourselves as you like. The drinks are cheap and you can catch local DJ’s most nights!

Newton Bar

For something on the fancy side, head to Newton Bar, sitting near to what is basically Berlin’s business district. Rich red leather chairs and heavy, dark oak tables lend themselves to a mature crowd—heck, there’s even a private cigar lounge upstairs if you want to get really proper. The real draw of this place is the chance to be surrounded by the work of fashion photographer Helmut Newton, with an entire wall dedicated to his black and white nudes of statuesque models reminding you it’s ok to eat that next Currywurst (though, you probably won’t be able to order it here).

Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke

If you love being part of a good story, you won’t want to miss Monster Ronson’s. Owner Ron Rinek moved to Berlin in 1999 with $7,000 to his name, purchased a karaoke machine, and started hosting karaoke parties in squat houses all over Europe somehow getting paid to do it. Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke is the brick-and-mortar proof that dreams do come true, and is no place to hold back your inner diva. With several different karaoke booths—some small, others with their very own stages and hosts—this place will not disappoint.

Urban Spree

A dedicated art space, Urban Spree is best known for it’s ever-changing gallery which famously features an ‘Artist Wall’, fronting onto Warschauer Strasse and rotating the works of some even better known artists. But, this place doubles as a great place to stop for a drink or three, immersed right in that Friedrichshain buzz of art, music and grunge. It’s also an excellent spot to catch live music, with a busy program featuring a broad spectrum of genres! Look out for their special events, festivals and workshops.

Timber Doodle

If you’re after a good cocktail fix but want to return to the bustle of Friedrichshain’s streets afterward, Timber Doodle is the place to find it. The chandelier that hangs elegantly over the bar and the 1930’s jazz music that’ll surely be playing eases you into a slightly more up-market experience for the area, and the cocktails on offer are of the upmost quality and taste. Their signature drink which shares the name of the bar is worth trying, but the recipe is secret!

This is the ultimate piece of Berlin ‘90s squat-house history wrapped up in a great place to drink. After the fall of the Berlin wall, Friedrichshain and the surrounding areas were largely abandoned by then-residents and repopulated by punks, anarchists and activists who went about carving out space for themselves in the crumbling walls of Berlin’s east. This place is one of few squats that isn’t now a tourist site, and offers dimly-lit grimy charm. If you’re not into punk music, the extremely cheap beer will come in handy.

Hops & Barley

As the name would suggest, Hops & Barley is a place for beer aficionados (self-proclaimed or otherwise!). These guys are reinventing traditional German beer, and have shot to the top as a hub for local beer lovers. The interior feels clean and moder—think heavy wood and dark leather meets detailed white and green tiling and metal finishings. This is the place to take your time over a few beers and good conversation.

If you’re looking for somewhere to really kick the night off, this is it. Perfectly located where Kreuzberg meets Mitte on Oranienstrasse, Luzia offers up all your favourite drinks at affordable prices and heats up with a pretty rowdy crowd looking to party. Keeping you firmly grounded in Kreuzberg style is the bric-a-brac interior, with murals and ornaments landing the vibe somewhere between gothic and kitsch. Get a seat up front by the windows or on the street to really get the juices flowing!

BRLO Brwhouse

Adding to Berlin’s long list of breweries is this urban favourite, BRLO Brwhouse. This place absolutely heaves through summer, with a massive and impressively modern outdoor drinking area that redefines the typical German biergarten. The interior architecture of this place has almost as many layers as the beer they brew, so you can carve yourself out a spot and then drink your way through the taps.

Bateau Ivre

Set in one of Berlin’s many squares right where Friedrichshain meets Kreuzberg, this place is where you feel the subtle change in tone between the two neighbourhoods. Still raw, eclectic and packed with locals, Bateau Ivre has a bit more of the modern, cleanly charm that’s known to Kreuzberg. You’ll love the retro tables and mix ’n’ match chairs almost as much as you’ll love the beverage selection!

It might be an outrageous call to make, but we’re doing it: this is the prettiest bar in Berlin. Set in what used to be a pharmacy, Ora has retained most of the original furnishings and interior making it actually to-die-for in terms of beauty. Think row upon row of tiny pigeon-holes and wooden drawers that once would have contained medical concoctions, now housing the many alcoholic offerings that are whipped together by friendly bartenders into some of Berlin’s best and most insta-worthy cocktails. An absolute must-visit for anyone who loves Berlin’s drool worthy interior architecture, or anyone who loves a cocktail that’s far too easy to drink.

Schwarze Traube

For only the truest lovers of cocktails (think seriously about that), this place absolutely can’t be missed. Owner and mixologist Atalay Aktas became a Berlin legend when he won ‘Germany’s Best Mixologist’ in 2013. This place is tiny and you have to knock to enter, so a bit of German won’t go astray here—a great excuse to make a local friend. Our favourite part? There’s no menu. Simply tell the waiters your favourite flavours and wait to have your mind blown.

Opening as a bar only on weekends, Nest is fascinating, beautiful and a whole lot of fun all at once. The place is stacked full of incredible retro furnishings and finishings, with beautiful old leather chairs sprawled through multiple rooms making for the most comfortable cocktail in Berlin. The tiny bar is entirely covered in chrome, and the dim lights and flickering candles set the mood to something sultry. With delicious cocktails and easily the friendliest service in town to boot, you mustn’t miss it.

John Muir

Set on Berlin’s long strip of bars, Skalitzer Strasse, John Muir is bringing a bit of the Brooklyn vibe to Berlin. Cosy and smoke-free inside, the spirits bar is enchanting—detailed brickwork, hand-chalked menus, and a good selection of gin. The cocktail menu is seriously experimental—the names will sell you on the drinks before the ingredients do!

If you happen to be in Berlin during winter, you might be disappointed that you can’t experience the world of leafy biergartens dotted throughout the city. Enter Bellmans: the perfect winter hidey-hole, this place feels invincible to whatever Mother Nature is brewing outside. Opened by a well-known sommelier, there’s also no shortage of good vino (and tequila, gin and whiskey) to keep you warm and, let’s be real, buzzed, as the rain continues to pour outside.

Bei Schlawinchen

This is a must-visit if you want to experience something Berlin is famous for—the Kneipen, best likened to a ‘working man’s club’. Many of these types of places cater to sports fans or speed metal addicts, but this one is just a cosy, local haunt where people happily congregate. Bordering on being a dive bar, this place is kind of so bad that it’s good. With an eclectic interior featuring bizarre toy dolls, old bicycles and random instruments, you will not be short on conversation here. The walls also proudly wear a badge proving the bar’s 30 years of never closing—and they seriously mean never. Open all the time and offering up cheap and plentiful beer (naturally), this place will top your Berlin experience right off.

Muted Horn

If you don’t like craft beer, turn back now. Jokes, they also have cider, wine and a whole host of other liqueurs. But seriously, with 22 taps and a list of bottled beers too long to even scroll to the bottom of, Muted Horn is not mucking around in bringing the best of craft beer to Berliners and travellers alike. Clear your itinerary and settle in for this one, you are gonna wanna taste them all.

Lager Lager

Another of Berlin’s craft beer shops that doubles as a bar, Lager Lager is not to be missed if you love craft beer. With an appealing interior featuring beautiful exposed brick, refurbished steel stools and farmhouse-style tables, you won’t want to forget your camera. Lager Lager has eight taps and a rotating tap list showcasing local and international favourites, which you can bottle up and take with you or enjoy in house. You can even sign up for an informal beer tasting if you’re after an early-evening activity

Jaja Wine Bar

If natural wine is your thing, this place is dedicated to it—so be sure not to miss it. Set just outside the first ring, Jaja feels far away from the busyness of Berlin, making it the ideal place to enjoy quality wine and a fine meal. It’s also a wine shop with an extensive offering, so you can take something home with you to enjoy for the remainder of your visit.

While you're in Europe, check out these six off the beaten track spots to visit.

Perth’s Best Dessert Cocktails

Perth’s Best Dessert Cocktails

by Elena Mauen @ The A List | The Urban List

Cocktail? Yes please! Dessert? Always. Combine the two and we're sold! But where to find the best dessert cocktails in Perth you ask? Well, we’ve done the hard yards and drank our way through the city so you don't have to.

Here are Perth's best dessert cocktails.

Tavolo | Hot Chocolate Martini

Italian restaurant Tavolo serves delicious pizzas, pasta, desserts and coffee, but if you need one reason to go, it's the cocktails. Their hot chocolate martini is made with chocolate (obvs), marshmallow syrup and Baileys and is topped with toasted marshmallows! If that's not enough, their white hot chocolate martini comes finished with dehydrated raspberries and Nutella.

Bar Lafayette | Nuts And Berries

Bar Lafayette's Nuts & Berries is made with cream, berries and spices, then shaken with Frangelico and Joseph Cartron Mure liqueur and finished with a shaving of nutmeg. Just what the doctor ordered.

Varnish On King | Dessert Old Fashioned

Whiskey, food, wine and more whiskey. This is exactly what's on offer at Varnish on King and their collection of booze would make Winston Churchill absolutely wild! If you're after a classic with a twist, the Dessert Old Fashioned is for you. Hudson Manhattan Rye, Averna, black walnut, and cold drip coffee finished with a twist of orange. If Christmas was a cocktail, this would be it.

Bobeche | Genesis 4:1

If you haven't been to Bobeche, what have you been doing with your life? This 20s style speakeasy is well known for their teapot cocktails to share, but their menu also has a few modern takes on old classics. The Genesis 4:1 is made with Bulleit Bourbon, honeycomb, chocolate and rosemary and is the perfectly-balanced drink for a serious sweet-tooth.

The Dominion League | Grasshopper

The Dominion League's take on  the Golden Gaytime ice cream is a thing of beauty. Their Grasshopper is made with coffee infused vodka, muscatel liqueur, Golden Gaytime stout reduction, branca menta, choc bitters and a quail egg. Crazy? Yes. But Amazing? Definitely.

Sweetwater Rooftop Bar | Bounty Martini And Espresso Pop

East Fremantle

Sweetwater Bar is rooftop goals and their cocktails are so good we couldn't choose just one. If you don't mind a bounty from time to time, get your hands on their Bounty Martini—Bobmay Sapphire, cocnut and chocolate bitters—or if you prefer your cocktails with a kick of caffeine, their Espresso Pop made with buttersctoch schnapps, barcardi, espresso and walnut bitters and topped with popcorn will do the job.

Halford | The Pink Squirrel

When we tasted Halford's Pink Squirrel for the first time, it was love at first taste. Invented in the 50s by Bryant Sharp at Bryant's Cocktail Lounge in Milwaukee, The Pink Squirrel is a glamorous cocktail with a hint of girliness brought back to life by Halford, and you need it now.

Wildflower | Pavlova Smash

Wildflower might be one of Perth's fine dining institutions, but at their core they just love Aussie classics—hence the Pavlova Smash. A beautiful combination of vodka, chocolate, wattle seed, lime, mint and passion fruit, this is the perfect drink to sip on their rooftop.

Measure Bar | Lemon Meringue

Mount Lawley

Specialising in all things sweet Measure Bar offers an array of delectable desserts in food and cocktail form. The Lemon Meringue—a blend of limoncello, vodka, Cointreau, Drambuie and lemon—made quite an impression on us.

Percy Flint | Oh Behave

South Fremantle

Percy Flint's Oh Behave is an almighty dessert cocktail if there ever was one. A caramel espresso martini made with spiced rum and topped with toasted marshmallows. Heck yes!

Wolf Lane | Fluffed Up—Sprinkle Me Sweet

Another one topped with toasted marshmallows, Wolf Lane's delightful mix of vodka, Chambord, Granny May’s secret bubble gum mix and cranberry topped with toasty marshmallows is a drink you have to try at least once. Think summer meets s’mores.

Once you're finished with these, check out these Perth bars you should have been to.

Kylie Jenner Finally Confirmed She Was Pregnant & We Have A Lot Of Feelings

Kylie Jenner Finally Confirmed She Was Pregnant & We Have A Lot Of Feelings

by Ange Law @ The A List | The Urban List

After months of every single person in the entire world speculating that Kylie Jenner was pregnant, we finally have answers. And thank God for that—seriously, we’re tired. It started with an Instagram post (that’s already had a cool 6.2 million liked by the way) where she basically apologised for keeping us in the dark and fiiiiiine we’ll forgive her.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on Feb 4, 2018 at 12:27pm PST

Now there’s a video documenting her entire pregnancy and we have a lot of feelings. The video starts with Kris giving birth to Kylie and I don’t care what this says about me, but I had chills. It’s also a little chilly in Sydney this morning but really, we know it was the DRAHMA.

The story of her pregnancy is then told by her two best friends. Cue cute footage of Travis (AKA baby daddy) showing his mate an ultrasound image and all of us wondering how the hell they kept it all so quiet. We’ll admit, it’s all a lot cuter than we thought it’d be.

Seriously, Kardashian home videos get us every freaking time.

Game Of Thrones’ S8 Release Date Is Out—Cue The Hysteria!

Game Of Thrones’ S8 Release Date Is Out—Cue The Hysteria!

by Jessica Pridmore @ The A List | The Urban List

Confession: we’re still not over the fact that Game of Thrones will not be returning to our screens in 2018 (you cried too, right?). While others have been filling the void with the Graces and Frankies of the world, others—read: me—have been hanging out in sketchy GoT internet group chats and scouring Facebook pages (if none of you are following Game Of Laughs I suggest you do so, pronto) waiting, sort of patiently, for a teaser to drop. Something. Anything.

And guess what? It finally bloody happened!

Yesterday evening, amongst some controversy might we add, the internet became abuzz with news that the release date for GoT S8 had been accidentally leaked, and by a cast member no less. Cue mock horror.

Upon further investigation, it seems Maisie Williams, aka Arya, has not, in fact broken the deafening silence of HBO’s strict contracts, and tbh, we’re pretty torn up about it.

So, what do we know? It is confirmed, however, that Game of Thrones S8 will return in 2019—we’re just not sure when, ffs. There is likely some truth in Maisie Williams’ claimed misquote and that’s that filming will likely wrap at the end of 2018, and that there is generally a lead time of four months for editing and special effects. April. April 2019, guys! There, we said it. It’s happening. FACT.

After the speed of which 2018 is already whizzing by, we’re totally here for it—it’ll fly by. Reality, or our own version of it. Whenever John Snow and co returns to our screens, we’ll be ready.

Want something to get stuck in to that's 100% happening this year. All these awesome movies, that's what!

What Your Favourite Summer Drink Says About You

What Your Favourite Summer Drink Says About You

by Millie Lester @ The A List | The Urban List

As Ghandi once said, Friday knockoffs are the window to the soul. It’s the perfect opportunity to size up a potential date or m8, because you can tell a lot about a person from what bev they choose to wrap their lips around in the warmer months. Something flat? Something bubbly? Something brewed? Something aged? Are they living at home? Do they have a successful career? Would they be comfortable sharing a bowl of beer battered chips? Have they done a murder? We can answer all of these important questions and more.

Don’t believe us? Read on.

Rosé In A Can

When people ask you what three things you’d take to a desert island, you’re the kind of person who says ‘a speedboat, a life jacket and a mobile phone’. You floss twice a day, you stay on the line to answer short customer support surveys and you take coffees back when they’re not made with skim milk. If your dog needed surgery, you’d take a day to first way up if the return on investment was worth it and you once sent a video of a cop car driving through a pedestrian crossing on your street to the Federal Police.

Aperol Spritz

You got back from your gahp yaah four years ago and everyone hates you now because you still can’t sit through dinner without bringing up all the huts you built and ‘theoretical’ lives you saved in 2014. You once took someone else’s dog home from the supermarket because you thought it was yours and you have ‘Not all those who wonder are lost’ tattooed on your collarbone and your friends are too scared to tell you it’s spelt wrong.

In Grade 3 you had the biggest Beanie Kids collection at your school, you once got a lifetime ban from Club Penguin for excessive swearing and you got your belly button pierced at sixteen after seeing Britney Spears’ music video ‘Lucky’. When you’re not calling Telstra to contest phone bills you definitely deserve, you’re either Googling ‘how to get abs in two weeks’ or vehemently defending Taylor Swift on Instagram.

Espresso Martini

You’ve been to court over rental bond disputes on more than three occasions, you once won $300 on Deal or No Deal and you insist on calling your parents by their first names in social situations. When you’re not at home watching Charmed and eating hummus and carrots, you’re misspelling your favourite beverage as ‘expresso martini’ in your Insta-story every Saturday night.

Craft Beer

You can’t tell the difference between a lager and a pale ale, but you once ordered a cappuccino at a Maccas drive-thru and you’re still getting shit for it from your friends. Behind closed doors you enjoy reading tennis players’ autobiographies, playing internet poker and doing ‘girls pushups’ in front of the hallway mirror while your mum’s at the supermarket. Technically your family doesn’t know you dropped out of uni in 2013, but you’re hedging your bets on it being a funny anecdote you’ll bring up at Christmas in fifteen years.

Frozen Margarita

Recently you entered into a new relationship but you’re considering ending it because you miss getting messages from strangers on Tinder. When you go on your annual week-long holiday to the Whitsundays with ‘the girls’, you leave your ragdoll Theresa six cans of cat food in a mixing bowl. Your biggest crime to date is regularly scanning avocados through as white seedless grapes at the Woolies self-checkout. You still haven’t realised that they’re triple the price per kilo.

A Shoey

You’ve had Mi Goreng and a piece of toast for dinner every night for the last four years. Two years ago you were on Today Tonight because you swapped all the welcome mats in your street. You currently hold the Asia-Pacific record for the most cans of Fanta drunk in one hour, you’ve had the chicken pox three times and technically you never received your pen license.

Maybe kombucha is more your thing? Here are some kombucha cocktails worth trying.

There’s A Pop Up Bar Out The Back Of Connections For Three Weeks Only!

There’s A Pop Up Bar Out The Back Of Connections For Three Weeks Only!

by Anna Franklyn @ The A List | The Urban List

Everyone loves Connections, and everyone loves a pop-up bar, so we're willing to bet you're all going to flipping adore Joan, the brand-spankin' new pop up bar out the back of Connections.

Joan popped up last night in the warehouse off Nick's Lane in Chinatown (opposite the back entrance to the Standard) and let's just say, Joan is fabulous. The team at Connections has built the bar from scratch with recycled, repurposed and re-loved furniture and a whole lot of love, so it'd be rude not to go and visit before she closes up shop in three weeks.

Kapitol P will be spinning yacht rock, blue and brown eyed soul, funk, soul and disco on the decks, and the guys behind the bar will be slinging drinks all night, including the delicious Campari Sunrise cocktail as well as gin & juice and a good ol' mojito.

She'll only be around until the end of Fringe on Sunday 18 February, so get down there ASAP for a good time.

Want to catch a show while you're there? Here's what we think you need to see at Fringe.

9 Books That Will Become Movies in 2018

9 Books That Will Become Movies in 2018

by Bella Ramdhanie @ The A List | The Urban List

2018 is set to be an epic year for seeing all of your favourite books come to life on screen. Even though us reading enthusiasts will often agree how good the movie was whilst secretly agreeing with ourselves that the book was better, we could not be excited.

Hollywood is bringing many beloved characters to the big screen this year and there’s nothing quite like seeing the stories you created in your imagination become reality. So, get your popcorn ready and prepare yourself for those conversations where you compare all the differences between the book and the movie. Here are some of the best books that will become movies in 2018!

Red Sparrow

Jason Matthew’s novel Red Sparrow is a movie that should not be missed this March. The flick is set to tell the tale of a Russian spy who is also a ballerina (yas?!), played by none other than the gorgeous, Jennifer Lawrence. For those of you who have read the book, you know you’re in for a great watch and if you haven’t had the chance… trust us. You won’t regret it!

A Wrinkle in Time

The magical narrative, A Wrinkle In Time, is also coming to life this March. Aaand we could not be more excited! Based on Madeleine L’Engle’s imaginative novel, the movie’s stellar cast includes Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Mindy Kaling and Storm Reid. Okay… we are officially counting down the days until the 9th!

Mary Poppins

Musical theatre fans rejoice! Starring the extremely talented Emily Blunt, a childhood favourite is being brought back to the big screen. Mary Poppins Returns will be released in December, and this is one worth waiting for. This uplifting tale will be one for the whole fam to enjoy! In fact, we’re thinking it’s gonna be practically perfect in every way.

The Black Hand

Leonardo DiCaprio is back on the big screen in 2018 (!!!). Recreating Stephen Talty’s spectacular novel, The Black Hand, combined with the inclusion of our beloved Leo, means that clearly, this one is gonna be great. Taking the audience on a journey of crime and intrigue, the movie follows the story of Joe Petrosino, a New York police officer. The release date has not been announced yet, so we are pretty much forced to be patient (groan), but it’s set to be released this year! So… we’ll see you then (whenever that may be).

The #1 New York Times best-seller, Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy, is set to release in cinemas this year! Yas! The story follows Willowdean Dickson, a self-proclaimed “fat-girl” who enters the small town’s beauty pageant. The crazily cool cast includes Danielle Macdonald, Jennifer Aniston and Dove Cameron. Making it just that little bit more awesome, Dolly Parton is writing new, original music for the film?! Dumplin’ is not only a good laugh, entertaining and inspirational but, body positive. Damn right!

The Nutcracker And The Four Realms

E.T.A Hoffman lovers, ballet lovers, and Barbie lovers, this one is for you. Disney is releasing The Nutcracker this year, starring Mackenzie Foy, Keira Knightley and Morgan Freeman! The story is being recreated by the studio that brought you Tarzan and Beauty And The Beast. Trust us when we say it’s going to be magical.

Love, Simon

The charming story displayed in Love, Simon is based on Becky Albertalli’s Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda. The movie follows Simon (played by Nick Robinson) who is yet to tell his friends and family that he is gay and that he has fallen for an anonymous classmate online. The flick also stars the stunning actresses Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) and Jennifer Garner (Alias). Said to be hilarious and dramatic, this sounds like a flick that we will not be missing.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

Where’d You Go, Bernadette, the story written by Maria Semple and we are ever so interested in what the film version will entail. The novel itself follows an agoraphobic architect and mother, Bernadette Fox, who goes missing. We can’t wait to see how Hollywood brings this one to life! Making it even more exciting, the cast is incredible and includes Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, Troian Bellisario, and Judy Greer.

Crazy Rich Asians

The movie adaption of Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians looks like it’s gonna be one of the top movies to see in 2018. The massive hype around the book has led to this highly-anticipated movie. The brilliant cast includes the likes of Constance Wu (Fresh Off The Boat), Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8) and Gemma Chan (Humans). The story follows Rachel Chu who learns that her longtime boyfriend is extremely wealthy and she realises that she must now deal with jealousy and Nick’s quirky family! Get your diaries out because this is one movie release you don’t want to miss!

Looking to bury your head in a book instead? Here's the best books to read this summer.

15 Non-Excruciating Things To Do On Valentines Day In Perth

15 Non-Excruciating Things To Do On Valentines Day In Perth

by Emma Pegrum @ The A List | The Urban List

Ahh, Valentine’s Day. The day we all love to hate and hate to love. The day couples awkwardly manoeuvre a half-hearted Hallmark celebration, unsure of its Australian protocols, and the day singles are reminded of all the reasons they remain single (it’s a choice, obvs).

Whether you’re a cynic or an eccentric, we’re sure you’ve got some love to give this Valentine’s Day—even if it’s just to your mum. From dancing the night away at the disco, to love-themed dinners, to all out fancy degustations, there’s so much to do on Valentine’s Day in Perth that even the coldest hearts won’t be able to resist an outing. So brush your hair back and get ready to celebrate love: here are all the most non-excruciating things to do this Valentine’s Day in Perth.

Fringe Festival

F**k Tinder At The Brass Monkey Hotel

The only comedy event exclusively for singles, there are only two dates left to experience the hilarity and one of them conveniently happens to be Valentine’s Day. This show, hosted by high-energy comic Chris Henry, is all about getting singles off their phones and back in the pub meeting potential lovers face-to-face. They’ll provide the conversation, all you need is the good looks!

Cupid’s Wheel Of Tantric Fortune For Couples At Belgian Beer Cafe

Don’t be scared by the name, guys. On the other hand, please don’t get too excited. From Cupid’s School of Tantric Lapdancing, it’s time to up the relationship-ante by heading along to this show and taking a spin of the wheel. Who knows what you might end up with—will it be fur suit stroking, lap dancing or something involving cake?

(Not) The Bachelor Live On Valentine’s Day At the Hellenic Club Of WA

For those who love watching The Bachelor/ette at home on TV, imagine if you could just see it all unfold over one, hilarious evening, no ads, no interruptions, and most importantly, no script. Well, now you can at this show on Valentine's Day in Perth. Watch in horror and awe as three singles and a Bachelor or Bachelorette are taken and made into a match by Perth’s own Luke Bolland.

Beyonce Beats No Lights No Lycra At YMCA HQ

Decisively say ‘no thanks’ to Hallmark this V-Day and, instead, mark Bey-Day, which is every day, because Beyonce is Queen. Enter the darkness at this No Lights No Lycra and dance the way you feel, with no high heels, no judgment, no inhibition, and most importantly: no lights. Ladies, leave your man at home and fellas, leave your girl with her friends because this is a no-corny-stuff zone.

Everything Else

Whack-It Wednesday At Caballitos

While the name might suggest something slightly more untoward, on Whack-It Wednesday at Caballitos you get a shot at whacking the piñata with every lagerita you purchase! The special V-Day edition features adult prizes awaiting inside, with oversized $30 lageritas for sharing between two. Better start warming up the shoulders now! Oh and P.S. You get a free ‘love potion’ on arrival, so you’ll be under the Valentine spell in no time.

SWOON At Late Night Valentine

Bowled Over Dating is teaming up with everyone’s favourite late night spot, Late Night Valentine, to put on this singles mingler that promises not to be awkward. Avoid the sorry sights of couples feeding each other across the table and the pink and red streamers that hang in your eyes as you try to eat and dance the night away instead, surrounded by potential (and eligible) mates. There’ll be eats, drinks and old school soul-n-funk!

Lover’s Melt At Late Night Valentine

Late Night Vals is really bringing us the goods this Valentine’s Day! Outside in the starry courtyard you’ll find Lover’s Melt, a groovy little shindig featuring the sounds of love. With all the best love-themed music from throughout the decades being curated by some of Perth’s cutest DJ couples, you can be sure to feel the love on V-Day, without the cringe.

Burning Love At Varnish On King

Guys, book yourselves in for dinner at Varnish On King this V-Day if you want your relationship to burn a little hotter. Offering up a bacon and whiskey mini-cocktail on arrival alongside their usual menu of seriously good, Kentucky-inspired eats (think cold cuts with pickles, juicy onion rings, lamb ribs and pork knuckle!). And for those left questioning: yes, the bacon and whiskey combo is a thing, and if you haven’t tried it, this is the place.

Mate Night At The Windsor Hotel

South Perth

This one really is for the non-believers—but hey, love for our mates is just as important as any other kind of love! Enjoy ‘anti-Valentine’s night’ at Mate Night at The Windsor. For all the single pringles, desperately undesirables, and forever spinsters, bring your mate along for a free dinner and send some love and appreciation where it’s needed.

Swipe Right Tinder Party At The Aviary

If you need someone to play cupid, look no further than the crew at The Aviary. In true modern romance style, this Tinder Party features DJ beats, drink specials and free entry, so you can come meet your soulmate (or something like that)—as long as you have a smartphone.

Feed Me Menu At Market Grounds

Ok, this one’s serious (and it’s a seriously good deal). Celebrate the day of love at Market Grounds with a delicious feed me menu curated by their head chef, which will feature a couple of starters to share, mains and a ridiculously drool-worthy dessert, for just $40 per person. Did we mention you also get champagne on arrival?

Three Course Dinner At Bib & Tucker

North Fremantle

Another good deal for you and your sweetheart, Bib & Tucker is offering up a three course share-style menu for $75 with million dollar beachfront views. The main share is a slow roasted beef fillet served pink—assumedly in keeping with a love theme—and for dessert? Bib's Banoffee Bombe Alaska, which comes with lashings of banana and toffee, biscuit and meringue!

Valentine’s Day Mystery Dinner At The Old Laundry

North Perth

For the couples who love food and adventure, or a bunch of friends who just want to show how much they love each other (and food), put your trust in the chef at this Valentine’s Day Mystery Dinner. For $60 you get, well, no information, no clues and no idea what you’re in for except for a satisfied palette and a full belly!

Three Course Chocolate Degustation At Measure Dessert Bar

Mount Lawley

If you’ve been a bit inattentive this year and really need to indulge your honey this Valentine’s Day, Measure is offering up what sounds like death by chocolate at this three course degustation. With paired alcoholic drinks designed by expert bartenders to compliment the chocolatey goodness, we are pretty sure you’ll be rolling out of here in all kinds of good moods.

Two Course Dinner At The Garden

For those who really couldn’t care less about Valentine’s Day but are looking to take advantage of the meal specials, here’s a cracker for you: two courses and a glass of vino for $22 at The Garden Leederville. Take your sweetheart, your best friend, your mum or your virtual companion down to enjoy a delish meal on the cheap—just be careful not to accidentally celebrate love while you’re doing it, that would be tragic.

The Best Spots To Watch The Sunrise In Perth

The Best Spots To Watch The Sunrise In Perth

by Alexis Donkin @ The A List | The Urban List

Even if you're a morning person, you probably don't take the time to enjoy a sunrise over Perth enough—it's hard to get out of bed in the dark, we get it. But as the sky turns a crisp orange or beautiful soft pink, it's pretty special and totally worth setting the alarm for, even if it's just once this year.

That's the hard part, so now to the easy bit. We've done the research for you and these are the best spots to watch a sunrise in Perth—we're pretty sure you won't be disappointed. Remember, the early bird catches the worm...

Frasers Avenue

Kings Park

It offers one of the best views in Perth no matter what time of day it is, and come sunrise it's nothing short of spectacular. An uninterrupted view of the hills, our city skyline, the iconic Swan River and of course, Elizabeth Quay. If you haven't been up there for a while, head up there for sunrise. Try and grab a spot near the State War Memorial, it offers the perfect backdrop for a photo or two. Just remember to take a blanket—it can be pretty chilly up there in the wee hours.

Parliament House

West Perth

Now, this is not a place many of us frequent, but we guarantee you can catch a pretty spectacular view of the sunrise here. There is parking for members of the public, although if you're heading up there that early we doubt you'll be fighting for a spot. For those keen to get some photos, this is the place to be. With the gorgeous high-rise buildings in the foreground and a stunning sunrise emerging behind it—just wow!

Claisebrooke Cove

East Perth

Park up on Royal Street and find a spot along the waterfront to watch the sunrise, or for those of you who are fortunate enough to have a boat, you might want to spend the night on it and wake up here! The sky from this viewpoint is nothing short of breathtaking in the early hours. And don't forget there are loads of fantastic cafes around for a post-sunrise coffee or breakfast date.

South Perth Foreshore

South Perth

Early risers south of the CBD, this one's for you. Find a spot along the banks of the Swan River somewhere near the Narrows Bridge for the one of the best views of the Perth sunrise. Take a picnic rug and find a spot on the grass, bring along a hot coffee and simply enjoy one of the most beautiful times of the day. And then why not dig into a hot breakfast afterwards? Win win.

Matilda Bay

Matilda Bay offers a stunning view and a great walking track, so you can kill two birds with one stone and get some exercise in after you watch the sunrise. Or you could just go to Bayside Kitchen for a coffee. Try and choose a still morning when the water is like glass for some epic photos.

Old Swan Brewery

Another beautiful waterfront location that is totally worth setting the alarm early for. Again, if you can get a still morning, you'll get some seriously Insta-worthy pics. And before you panic, there is parking, you can access it just east of the Old Swan Brewery. From there, you can walk down to the good ol' blue boat shed to get that iconic Perth shot. Remember, the earlier the better to really capture all the of the colours.

Rottnest Island

Okay, okay. We know you're not exactly going to board a ferry to get to Rottnest and watch the sunrise. But, if you are planning a little getaway on the island at some point, then you must get really early at least once to capture the exceptionally pretty sunrise. Pinkies Beach offers the best viewpoint, although there's nothin' wrong with a hot cuppa from the verandah of your cabin (or tent for the campers out there) to watch the sunrise.

Hillarys Marina Lighthouse

If you make your way to the end of North Mole (with your camera handy of course) you'll find the perfect setting for a sunrise. This spot is particularly popular for sunsets, but we're here to tell you the other end of the day is just as speccy. Not overly busy, this is a must for anyone keen to witness a stunning sunrise.

Lions Lookout

We love this stunning spot for sunset, but we'll have you know that sunrise is just as gorgeous here. Perched up on the hill in Perth's eastern suburbs, you're right in the thick of the action here. It is a drive for anyone who doesn't live near the hills, but coffee vans are known to frequent the area to help keep you wide awake. While you're up that way maybe check out the Carmel area and make a day of it.

Jorgensen Park

This is a beautiful spot for early risers who want to take their pooch for a morning walk. It doesn't offer panoramic views, but nestled amongst the trees you can witness all of the colours of a beautiful sunrise here. It offers plenty of stunning photo opportunities, and dog lovers may want to include their favourite four-legged friend in the photoshoot. There’s parking off Crescent Road near the Learning Centre.

As The Beatles would say… “Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo…”

Prefer to watch the sunset? Check out these incredible spots.

Seafood Opo Squash Soup

by delightfulplate @ Delightful Plate

– Seafood Opo Squash Soup is tasty, healthy and filled with delicate natural sweetness from opo squash, shrimp, and crab meat. With just one pot and a handful of ingredients, this easy soup will come together in less than 30 minutes. Whenever I travel back to Vietnam, I try to stuff myself with a lot of good food. It was no different this time. The next day after my long flight to Vietnam, my mom took me to a restaurant specializing in soups in Hanoi. I ordered crab opo squash soup and really enjoyed its sweet and delicate flavor. I immediately thought I needed to recreate this soup at home. So here it is, my seafood opo squash soup, inspired by my recent trip to Vietnam. I added shrimp because shrimp and opo squash is a classic pairing in Vietnamese cooking. Seafood Opo Squash Soup This soup is made from all natural ingredients and dairy-free. The main ingredients are opo squash, shrimp, crab, shallot, fish sauce, stock and some cornstarch (or tapioca starch). Opo Squash Here is a photo of opo squash in case you are not familiar with it. All The Best Things To Do In Perth This February

All The Best Things To Do In Perth This February

by Emma Pegrum @ The A List | The Urban List

It's Febraury—the most wonderful time of the year (if you live in Perth)! Fringe World and Perth Festival are here, the weather is (mostly) glorious and you're almost back into some sort of routine that resembles adulting after the Christmas holidays.

If you're still completely broke, check out all the best free things to do in Perth this February here, but if you've got some dollariedoos to play with, read on!

Fringe World | 26 January - 25 February

You absolutely cannot let February go by without carving out a couple of nights with friends or fam to soak up all that this homegrown festival offers—grab a drink or two at the Pleasure Garden, catch a cheap show, catch an expensive show, laugh, cry and go ‘woooooah’. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our top picks at this year’s Fringe World.

Perth Festival | 9 February - 4 March

There’s so much happening at Perth Festival this year, we can’t even begin to sum it up. There are events at Chevron Gardens—with names like A.B. Original, Dizzee Rascal, The Avalanches, Electric Fields and Wafia making the line up one of the best the festival’s ever seen. Catch a Lotterywest Film at UWA Somerville or ECU Joondalup Pines, soak up some culture during Writers Week or head to the Museum of Water.

Blooms & Bubbles | 4 & 10 February

At this Summerset Arts Festival event, Stacey from one of our favs Beans & Bunches is going to be guiding you through floral design techniques across three different classes—and you can sip on some beautiful bubbly the whole time. Sound good? Yeah, we thought so too.

Fish & Sips Festival | 2, 3 & 4 February

North Fremantle

This festival is here to fill your first weekend in Feb with flavour as it celebrates our fresh seafood, award winning wine and a coastline that never gets old. Happening at the beautiful Port Beach, there’ll be live music, wine tastings, seafood masterclasses, cooking demos and, obvs, lots of pop-up seafood eateries that you can chow down at. With the weekend events opening up to an 18+ crowd only into the night, and names like Swings & Roundabouts on the sponsor list, you can probably expect a good time!

Araluen’s Chilli Festival | 3 & 4 February

If you really want to spice things up and give February a bit of a zing, this is the place to do it. Araluen’s Chilli Festival offers up all kinds of spicy goodness including everything from sauces to beers or chutneys to doughnuts. You’ll also be able to shop for your own little plant to take home and love, and pick up some tips on how to bring that chilli into your kitchen from an on-stage celeb chef. Hold on to your hats!

Laneway | 11 February

If your inbox isn’t already flooded with marketing emails entitled, ‘What to wear to Laneway 2018’ like ours are, then you may need a bit of a reminder to get your darn Laneway ticket. If Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals aren’t enough of a reason to part with your well-earned dosh, don’t forget about Amy Shark, Basenji, Client Liaison, POND, Mac De Marco, The Internet and Odesza… among others. Seriously though guys, what am I wearing?

TLC At HBF Stadium | 14 February

Mount Claremont

Don’t even try and tell us you don’t want to go sing and dance along to ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Waterfalls’ with the queens from TLC. We know you do. P.S. Shaggy is supporting… what a great opportunity to find out whether it was indeed him?

Beyonce Beats No Lights No Lycra | 14 February

You might be beginning to notice a pattern here. We love 90’s RnB, whatofit? All the single ladies need to give Valentines Day the middle finger and go dance in the dark at this pitch-black, fully sober dance party where you can move the way you feel. Ladies, leave your man at home/fellas leave your girl with her friends ‘cos this is a No Lights No Lycra not to be missed!

Hot Dub Wine Machine | 17 February

Swan Valley

Crack open the chardy because Hot Dub Wine Machine is coming back to the Valley to turn your February on its head. New venue, same deal—think spanning hills and grapevines, towering trees, a huge lake and that fresh country air, all with wine flowing, food a’cooking and tunes abound. If you missed the last edition, make it your business to get a ticket to this one because boy oh boy is it going to be a big one.

Sunset Wine Festival | 17 & 18 February

If sunset wines at the beach is your thing (isn’t it everyone's thing?) then you won’t want to miss this. The perfect place to unwind and let the week fall away, the Sunset Wine Festival is offering live music, wine, craft beer and cider, gourmet food and good ol’ sunset vibes. We're five days into February already? While you’re busy trying to figure out how to slow down time, we’ve lined up some pretty cool stuff for you to this week to help you cheer up in the meantime.

Here are 5 awesome things to do in Perth this week.

All Week

There's nothing like turning around a sad ol' weekday with a good #throwback movie. Nevermind Smallclub & Deliveroo have joined forces to bring you Smallclub Movieclub as part of Fringe. They’ll be serving up cult classics all week from Monday through Thursday, and $20 will get you a beanbag, popcorn and a drink (an alcoholic one, because you deserve it). If you’re still hungry, Deliveroo is offering free delivery from a bunch of places around Northbridge. You know that Netflixing at home won’t get you free delivery, so you'd better get yourself to Nevermind. Click here for more details.

Monday 5 February

Play some pool, chug down some $5 tins, and inhale some chicken wings because Captain Stirling is doing unlimited chicken wings for just $20. We say take up the challenge and try to get crowned the king of the roost. Click here for more details.

Wednesday 7 February

Holy smokes! This Wednesday night, $49 will get you endless—yes, ENDLESS—tapas as Laneway Lounge AND a cocktail. Talk about good value! There's also live jazz from 7:30pm so you'll be hard pressed not to have a good time. Get more info here.

Let’s talk about gin. Grin away while making gin at this gin masterclass (Is the wordplay too much? We were just be-gin-ing). Get a chance to make your own bespoke gin while learning about the different gins around the world. Once your done, take home a jar of your own creation and celebrate gin-o-clock every day.

Thursday 8 February

Get yourself to the Comedy Lounge in Perth for the final heat of Raw Comedy. Tickets are only $20 and you all know a night of laughter is priceless, so get down there and start your weekend early.

There’s A Kitten Kissing Love Shack Happening In Perth This Weekend

There’s A Kitten Kissing Love Shack Happening In Perth This Weekend

by Anna Franklyn @ The A List | The Urban List

Calling all crazy cat ladies (and gents); if you're firmly on the 'I hate Valentine's Day and everything it stands for' train, you might want to reconsider. Why, you ask? Because this Saturday, in honour of Valentine's Day, the guys down at Cat Haven are putting on a Kitten Kissing Love Shack.

What the heck is a kitten kissing love shack? Don't worry, we asked the same thing. Basically, there's going to be a shack full of kit cats (real ones, not the chocolate kind) and for a measly gold coin donation, you can cuddle them (and kiss them, if that's your thing) until your heart's content!

If you happen to take a particular liking to one of those kittens, well we'd encourage you to get yourself a kitten for Valentine's Day—you deserve it.

If you'd prefer to go head first into a relationship with an older cat, you'll be able to adopt any of the cats who are older than one year for just $14 from Saturday until Wednesday 15 February.

Happy Valentine's Day!

A Brand New Korean Restaurant Is Opening In Mount Lawley Next Week!

A Brand New Korean Restaurant Is Opening In Mount Lawley Next Week!

by Anna Franklyn @ The A List | The Urban List

Korean food is trending hard in Perth right now and we're pretty happy about it. With the clean flavours and healthy crunch of Japanese, China’s heat and zing, plus some of the best fried chicken you’ll find outside the States, we don't know why Korean eateries haven't taken over the whole of Perth yet. But don't worry, they're on their way!

Seoul In is the newest of the bunch, opening on Wednesday 7 February in Mount Lawley in the spot that used to be Ramen Lab. While we're a bit sad about Ramen Lab closing, we're 10 times more excited to check out the menu at Seoul In. The chef has over 30 years of experience so you'd better believe you'll be drooling over the Korean fried chicken wings, kimchi dumplings, traditional bibimbap and sizzling bulgogi!

But that's not all. The guys behind Seoul In will also be opening Hyun, which will be a bit more of a refined authentic experience—think of it as casual fine dining. Hyun will be opening on Stirling highway in Claremont this March, stay tuned for details!

The Details

What: Seoul In Grand Opening When: Wednesday 7 February Where: 602 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley

25 Amazing Things To Do In Perth This Weekend

25 Amazing Things To Do In Perth This Weekend

by Emma Pegrum @ The A List | The Urban List

It’s already the second weekend of February so it’s time to get your act together and start soaking up all that the remainder of summer has to offer! Fringe Festival is in full swing (yes, I know we keep going on about it, but srsly) and Perth Festival kicks off this weekend too!

From open-air cinemas and sunset hawkers to sports games of historic proportions, dance parties and music festivals, there’s so much to do in Perth this weekend that it’s slightly overwhelming. Get your yet-to-be-used diaries out and start locking in some pals: here are 25 amazing things to do in Perth this weekend!

All Weekend

Fringe Festival

You all know how much we love Fringe—it’s no secret that we think it’s the absolute best time of year to be in Perth. If you’re anything like us, you’ve got the sudden urge to become a lifelong supporter of fringe theatre and the arts and are striving to get along to as many shows (on as tight a budget) as you possibly can. We’ve already made it easy for you by compiling our list of top picks at this year’s Fringe—many of which are on this weekend—but we’ve highlighted a couple of must-see’s for you specific to this weekend, too!

Club Swizzle In Northbridge

There are still some tix available for this absolute blockbuster of a show from the guys behind La Soiree but we are sure they’ll be gone soon, so if you haven’t caught a show yet (or even if you have!) head along to Club Swizzle this weekend for an otherworldly experience! You absolutely will not regret it!

Hot Brown Honey In Northbridge

This hotly anticipated show opens tonight and has already sold out quite a few shows so you need to get on it ASAP! Shake what your mama gave you and laugh ’til you cry with the genre defying, fiercely resilient, and theatrically gifted cast from Hot Brown Honey, performing all weekend and onward.

Studio Ghibli Fringe Flicks At Northbridge Piazza

For a more mellow evening, head along to the Northbridge Piazza to catch one of the beautiful Studio Ghibli films playing over the weekend. You’ve got a choice from Porco Rosso on Thursday night, Kiki’s Delivery Service Friday, personal fav Spirited Away on Saturday night, and My Neighbour Totoro to wrap things up on Sunday night. It’s a dream come true I tell ya.

Dome Date Night At Scitech

Celebrate the ever-closer looming V-Day a bit early at Dome Date Night, a uniquely romantic experience that we promise isn’t just for science nerds. It’s a film and multimedia show that captures the vastness of our universe at Scitech’s planetarium! Tickets include a complimentary beverage and a tonne of brownie points from bae. P.S. The actual Valentine’s Day show is sold out so, yeah, this is kinda’ your only option.

Perth Festival

Jeez’ Louise, where do we even start when it comes to Perth Festival happenings this weekend! It’s the first weekend of the festival so things are going pretty all-out, but there are some definite highlights worth hitting up above all else, IMO. See below…

Museum Of Water at Fremantle Arts Centre

The Museum Of Water is a total reimagining of what a museum can be, showcasing WA’s relationship to the most essential life force—water—as the driest state in our country. The water sources and stories that go with them have been collected from all over the state, including from someone’s laundry and a Paralympian’s swimming pool!

God’s Own Country At ECU Joondalup Pines

If you haven’t yet heard the hype about this film, you must have been living under a seriously big rock. Following the story of an angry young man from bleak ol’ Yorkshire who’s path intersects with a Romanian seasonal worker who changes his life, the film is moving and tender. The perfect palette warmer leading into Valentine's Day!

Ballet At The Quarry

Opening on Friday 9 February and running all weekend, the West Australian Ballet and guests from the Larrakia and Yorta Yorta nations ballet and opera come together to deliver Milnjiya, Milky Way (River of Stars), a sensory, dance-based delight under the stars at Quarry Amphitheatre. If this amazing venue and the promise of an incredible dance performance alone isn’t enough to entice you, there will also be food, so go.

Thursday 8 February

Scarborough Sunset Markets

Delicious food, cold bevs, pop-up stores and live music by the sea at sunset—why not? Park up on the beautiful beachside lawns with a glass of wine or peruse the stalls showcasing locally made bits ’n’ pieces at the Scarborough Sunset Markets. What better way to wind down before heading into the joke of a work day that is Friday?

Pasta Workshop At Perth City Farm

If tonight calls for a carb-overload (you’ll need some serious energy for the weekend ahead, trust me), then go hang out with Sophie Budd and learn how to make pasta at this Pasta Making Workshop. Sophie has trained under Jamie Oliver and ran the pasta section at his Cornwall restaurant ‘Fifteen Cornwall’, soo, you know, she’s pretty good.

Hip Hop Kara”Yo”ke At The Bird

Back at it again is everyone’s favourite karaoke night, Hip Hop Kara”Yo”ke, with a special love edition in anticipation of Valentine’s Day. Think Jay Z and Bey, Kelly Rowland and Nelly, and Rhi Rhi & herself: this is an all-out love fest celebrating or saying ‘cya later’ to the lovers, haters and heartbreakers of this world. Stretch your vocal chords and don your dancing shoes, this one’s a vibe.

Friday 9 February

Electric Fields At Chevron Gardens

Promising to be one of the best acts on the festival’s line up, Electric Fields are a duo of electro-pop splendour, with angelic, Sia-like vocals and stereotype-defying performances. They’ve been stunning audiences around the nation lately and we are psyched to have them here in Perth tomorrow to open proceedings for the Perth Festival! Oh and don't eat beforehand, The Standard, Sauma and Lalla Rookh will all be there dishing out the goods.

Perfect Strangers At Cottesloe Film Festival

Stretch out on the Civic Centre lawns with beautiful ocean views and a drink in hand (read: Aperol Spritz) to watch Perfect Strangers, a highly acclaimed Italian film about a dinner party turned deep-dark-secret-revealing-nightmare. Best put your phones away for this one so as to avoid any ironic mishaps.

Sunset Sessions At Claremont Pizza

Giant tipi village? Check. Pizza? Check. BYO? Check. Live music? Check. What better place to kick the night off or wind down the week than at Claremont Pizza’s Sunset Session, enjoying delicious pizza and pasta under the starry tipi village with BYO or seriously cheap ($5) wine and beer?

BYO Event At Fremantle Markets

Guys, we can’t keep banging on about this—but we will if we have to. The Fremantle Markets now have BYO every Friday night and it’s freaking awesome! Think of all those tantalising, mouth-watering, delicious eats. Think of the atmosphere, the buzz, the characters that you see wandering around the market stalls. Think of the limited impact the whole thing has on your bank account. Now add in BYO drinks and live DJ’s. Done!

Mount Hawthorn Hawkers Market

For the perpetually hungry, you can’t go past a good suburban hawkers market and this might just be the one to satisfy the cravings. The Mount Hawthorn Hawkers Market is set at the beautiful Axford Park, with fairy lights galore and a lot of food to be eaten. With the list of food stalls changing a bit from week to week, there is always something new and delicious to feast on!

Saturday 10 February

Block Party At Chevron Gardens

Eat, drink and dance the night away down at the spectacular Elizabeth Quay venue at Block Party, a party put on by DSB and Lab Six showcasing the best local up-and-coming DJ’s and producers. The food on offer promises to be above your usual ‘pop-up’ standard, coming from Lalla Rookh, Sauma and The Standard—so be sure not to eat beforehand ‘cos yuuuuum.

AFLW At Optus Stadium

Guys, they have already sold more than 45,000 tickets to the first ever footy game to be played at our brand new Optus Stadium—and it’s the AFLW! The Freo Dockers are coming up against Collingwood, and the event is set to become the most attended standalone women’s sporting event in Australian history which is downright fantastic, so you better get there and be part of history.

Closing Night | Three Summers at Cottesloe Film Festival

Enjoy the closing night of the Cottesloe Film Festival by curling up to watch Three Summers, an Australian made, awkward romantic comedy with a twist about two rather contrary musicians who flail in love after meeting at a summer music festival. A film that embraces the modern diversity of Australia, it’s perfect for viewing beside our beautiful Indian Ocean.

Sunday 11 February

Laneway Festival

If you’ve watched Anderson .Paak’s performance at the Adelaide instalment and somehow resisted the urge to buy tickets to Laneway Festival, we applaud you, but we also seriously encourage you to drop the act and reconsider your frugality. This is one year of Laneway not to be missed with a seriously impressive line-up and a bloody Perthect day forecast!

LeedyPalooza Unfair Day

This is Fringe Festival’s market day with a rather dark (yet still family friendly) twist, featuring all things ‘unfair’ like including unlucky dips, bad family portraits and misfortune cookies. We’re sure there’ll be lots of other weird and wonderful stuff on offer (knowing Fringe), not to mention the whole of Leederville at your very fingertips.

Oceanic Sessions | Sunday Music at Fremantle Arts Centre

Perth Festival’s Oceanic Sessions are here to delight and surprise, with rich musical flavours from all over the globe. This Sunday see South Africa’s Bongeziwe Mabandla singing in both English and Xhosa, sharing his unique Afro-folk sounds with elements of hip hop, dub and soul. Citing Tracy Chapman as a key influencer, we are sure Bongeziwe won’t be a disappointment, and what better way to wind down a busy weekend?

Harbour Sundays at The Maritime Museum

Hosted by RTRFM and the WA Maritime Museum, Harbour Sundays are also here to bring your weekend to a slow and relaxing close. This Sunday you will be blessed with sounds from Human Contact, De Cuba Son and DJ Claude Mono, who are, in all honesty, completely unbeknown to us but apparently extremely good and rather eclectic. Take a musical excursion through the worlds of jazz, Cuban beats and salsa all while enjoying a refreshing beverage on the beautiful Museum balcony, overlooking the stunning docks and ocean at sunset.

Noodle Sundays At Elizabeth Quay

Finish the weekend off right with seriously chill vibes at Noodle Sundays, enjoying $8 drinks and eats from Feral Brewing Company, Bao Wow and What The Cluck, along with live DJ’s and a coupla’ surprise pop-up Fringe shows. Yas please!

Kalamunda Farmers Market

If you are pretty serious about your fresh produce and like to stock up for the week, there is seriously no better place to do it than at the Kalamunda Farmers Market. If you’re not local, it does take a bit of getting to—but bet your bottom dollar that it’s worth it. There’s brekky eats, coffee, juice and smoothie aplenty, plus a whole host of fresh and local produce for sale at unbelievably good prices.

Growers’ Green Farmers Market

For those living at the opposite end of our fine city: don’t worry, there’s a Sunday farmers’ market for you too. Held at what used to be South Fremantle High School, Growers’ Green is refreshingly spacious as far as farmers’ markets usually go. Get all your goods for the week and chow down on some seriously delicious brekky (we recommend Shak Shuka or The Crepe Cart!) before sprawling out on the mats in the sun and enjoying live, local tunes.

8 Aussie True Crime Novels To Binge Read This Summer

8 Aussie True Crime Novels To Binge Read This Summer

by Millie Lester @ The A List | The Urban List

Put down that damn Jodi Picoult novel because we’ve dug up the best Aussie true crime books on the market just in time for Christmas, and Jodi’s latest heartbreaking courtroom drama is going to have to wait. Hours of bookshop research have told us that Australia is home to some pretty insane, real-life murder mysteries, and paired with a hot cup of tea and a few choccie bikkies, they make for a delicious night in this festive season.

Here are the best Aussie true crime novels to binge read these holidays.

1. Tall Man: The Death Of Doomadgee

This little number is based on the suspicious death of an imprisoned indigenous man in 2004. Set in the deep north of Australia, on Palm Island, middle-aged man Cameron Doomadgee is arrested for being a potty mouth in front of a white police officer. Less than an hour later, he turns up dead in the jailhouse as a result of ‘tripping over’, except according to the autopsy - that makes no sense. Commissioned by the pro bono lawyer who represented Doomadgee’s family, this is an unforgettable read about power struggles, revenge and justice.

2. Huckstepp: A Dangerous Life

This Australian story is a true crime classic and a must-read for anyone interested in real-life Aussie murder mysteries. In it, Huckstepp investigates the murder of a sprightly young lady who caught the country’s attention from the first moment she appeared on television, accusing New South Wales detectives of murdering her boyfriend. This is a fantastically written true story of a gutsy gal who paid the ultimate price on her quest for justice. Bum-bum-boooooow.

3. Joe Cinque’s Consolation

The description of this page-turning puzzler makes about as much sense as pineapple on pizza, but for that reason it’ll take you only half an afternoon to demolish. In 1997, a young ANU law student apparently makes a plan to slaughter her beloved boyfriend upon the conclusion of a dinner party she’s hosting at her house. Disturbingly, several of the dinner guests are aware of it, however none of them thought to warn old mate Joe who dies in his own bed of a massive dose of Rohypnol and heroin. I dare you NOT to go and buy this book now.

4. Snowtown: The Bodies In Barrels Murders

Some call the Snowtown murders Australia’s most notorious criminal case, and for good reason. In 1999, bodies were discovered in barrels inside at bank vault in the South Australian destination of Snowtown. One of the first reporters on the scene was former police reporter, Jeremy Pudney, who pieces all the bits of the puzzle together in order to get to the bottom of the Snowtown murders. The book covers not only the lives of the victims, but of those convicted and the strange circumstances that led them to get away with such violent crimes for so long. It’s tantalisingly spooky and equally horrifying.

5. Tamam Shud: The Somerton Man Mystery

The Somerton Man case remains one of Australia’s most well-known mysteries. In 1948, a body is discovered on a beach in Adelaide, well-dressed and unscathed, and with only a half-smoked cigarette by his side. Due to the fact that he had no identification with him, we still don’t know who he was or how he died these six decades later, what we do know is it was turned into a bloody good book that explores the ins and outs of how the mystery man could have turned up dead on the beach, and why the crime was never solved.

6. The Killing Of Caroline Byrne: A Journey To Justice

One night, during the mid-nineties, stunning Sydney model Caroline Byrne dies after she lands head-first into a crevice at the bottom of The Gap in the Sydney Harbour entrance (fecking ouch!). Was it suicide? Was it murder? All we know is it’s the story of Tony Byrne’s determination to find out the truth of his daughter’s death that hooks us in and leaves us wanting more. More well written crime fic, not unjust murder that is.

7. Gun Alley

Gun Alley is an enthralling story of how botched police work, trial by media and lynch-law hysteria led to the conviction and subsequent hanging of an innocent Australian man. The pages in this cracking book delve into the reasons why this confronting conspiracy was targeted towards an innocent person, and reveals vital and never-before-seen clues that, after eighty years, point to the real killer. Phwoar.

8. Searching For The Beaumont Children

Probably don’t pick this one up if you’re a parent yourself because the Beaumont Children mystery is one of the saddest and devastating of its kind in Australia. On January 26 1966, three siblings left their Adelaide home and set off for the beach. By the end of the day, none of the children had returned home and the ‘Beaumont Children Case’ remains Australia’s most famous (and gut-wrenching) unsolved mysteries. This book will have you burrowing down conspiracy rabbit holes all over the internet for days.

Get Your Sweat On | Where To Workout Down South

Get Your Sweat On | Where To Workout Down South

by Rosie Gregory @ The A List | The Urban List

It’s likely that when you head down south for a getaway the last thing on your mind is getting sweaty—unless it’s while tanning on one of the epic surf beaches or cruising around on a cellar-door crawl that is. But our very own adventure playground is home to a growing number of incredible yoga, Pilates and fitness studios that are well worth checking out. So, when you’re not hitting the surf, hiking the coastal tracks or taste tasting some vino, here’s your guide on where to workout down south.

The Movement South West

Owners Shelby Walsh and Callum Foster are the dynamic duo behind The Movement South West—our favourite spot to swing by for a sweat session down south. With HIIT, strength and conditioning, functional fitness and RPM classes on offer, there is always space for another player in this team. Just expect to sweat bucket loads.

From her in-house custom built studio (or outdoor ballet barre if you’re lucky!) Bec Dewar runs Wellgevity—a small group, semi-private and 1-1 studio that specialises in Pilates, Barre and mindful movement modalities. Aiming to create wellness through movement, this is the place to come if you want a workout that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised! She also specifically caters for peeps who are visiting the region for events like weddings and girls' getaways.

OM Time Yoga

Far removed from the trending “workout focused” yoga classes creeping into gym timetables OM Time Yoga focuses on nourishing, restorative yoga practices so you know you'll leave feeling zen. Based in the Pranayama (that's the yogi term for the practice of breath, FYI) and with experience in Ashtanga, Vinyassa, Reiki and Quantum Touch, Mel’s classes are designed to help you tune inwards, and let's face it, we could all use a bit of that.

Aerial Physio At Movement Solutions

Margaret River

For a unique experience in Margaret River, you might fancy Aerial Physio. The classes combine yoga, Pilates and a little bit of circus for a workout that enhances your flexibility, strength and coordination! Never been suspense mid-air in an aerial hammock before? No worries! You will be fully supported in the non-impact but core-burning workout, which helps reverse the effects of gravity.

Yoga By The Bay

Capitalising on the beauty of the South West coastline, Yoga By The Bay runs daily sessions on the Dunsborough foreshore and Sunday sessions at Eagle Bay community hall. As you soak up the ocean vibes and breathe deeply into the salty air, these seaside classes will have you flowing, stretching and strengthening with a mix of Hatha and Vinyassa Yoga practices.

Yoga South West

Sharing the same site as The Movement South West sits one of the most popular yoga studios in the region. Yoga South West offers classes entrenched in the authentic yoga lineages of Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Yin, so you can select your session depending on the time of day and your holiday mood.  Just remember to get in early though, the studio packs out with devoted regulars and holidaymakers eager to get bendy and it isn’t uncommon for the class to hit capacity well before the first sun salutation of the morning.

New Life Reformer Pilates

New Life Pilates Studio owner, Andree Lupton, has a weaponry of knowledge behind her and an eagle eye for picking out any cheating on technique! In her small group circuit classes, you'll work your entire body as you activate, flex, stretch and tone. As she hones in on your alignment and function, you’ll be sweating up a storm (didn’t we tell you those small Pilates movements can be seriously hard!)

Down South Physio And Sports Rehab

If you've got an injury and thought you could use that as an excuse to chill out, sorry, but you can't. The team at Down South Physio and Sports Rehab facilitate specific physio-led rehabilitation sessions to get you back up and running, or hitting the surf, ASAP. Offering sport/surf specific sessions, alongside classes suitable for the over 60s and “prehab” conditioning (that’s bullet-proofing your body before injury strikes) a heap of the treatment options may also be covered by private health insurance. Win.

KT Personal Training

KT Personal Training has long been one of the most popular Dunsborough personal training facilities for 1-1, duo or small group personal training sessions, as well as outdoor boot camps. With a multifaceted approach—your training session might cross between strength and conditioning drills to specific rehabilitation on the Pilates reformer—the focus here is on helping you achieve your long-term health and fitness goals, even if you're only down south for a couple of weeks.

ZenDen Yoga

The Zen Den Collective is a collaborative studio of independent yogis and teachers who offer a whole spread of classes from dynamic flow classes and naturopathy to crystal bowl healing and chakra dancing. There’s even a Yoga for Blokes class. If you’re looking for something a little different, you can always try out a SUP yoga session in the pristine Geographe Bay!

CrossFit Margaret River

Margaret River

CrossFit Margaret River offers strength and conditioning group classes, personal training and nutritional guidance for all fitness levels. Regardless of your experience, there is a crew of qualified trainers on hand to coach you through the challenging workouts and weekly beginner’s classes on offer specifically for first timers. The community of friends sweating through the WOD’s are constantly encouraging each other and the doors always open for experienced or travelling CrossFit athletes dropping by.

Mocean Fitness

Margaret River

Ninja Warrior fans listen up! Janet Smith—she reached the Australian semi-finals FYI—is the head coach at Mocean Fitness! Running the only licensed workouts on the River Mouth Beach, you’ll be flipping tyres on the sand, running sprints or carrying pine poles above your head. Back in the gym, you can try out functional fitness circuits, boxing fusion classes or a ZUU session—a programme using bodyweight exercises to hone your primal movement skills. For something truly unique, try testing your own ninja skills in the custom created Ninja Fit class—maybe we’ll be seeing you on TV next?!

F45 Training

Margaret River and Vasse

Fan of the sweeping success that is F45? Then you’re in luck as the franchise now has an official outpost in Margaret River and one in Vasse. Boost your fitness levels, sculpt out lean muscle and lower body fat percentage, all in just 45 minutes! But the deal gets even sweeter, with a seven-day free trial available for all F45 first timers, so you can kick into beast mode for a week of workouts down south!

Every time a musician sheds their skin to evolve their sound, it reveals a layer of their personal growth waiting to be brought out. Mermaid Lattes Exist In Perth And We Are Swimming With Excitement

Mermaid Lattes Exist In Perth And We Are Swimming With Excitement

by Anna Franklyn @ The A List | The Urban List

Move over turmeric, matcha and beetroot, there’s a new kid on the coffee alternative block and it's going by the name of the Mermaid Latte.

Pengos Cafe down in Shoalwater has just introduced the mermaid latte to their customers and the people are loving it for a whole sea of reasons.

This bright blue drink is packed full of herbs and minerals which are said to lower stress and support adrenal function, plus it's organic, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free and everything else you can think of, so it's basically health in a cup!

But don't go thinking it's taste free. While it might be the not-so-tasty-on-its-own blue spirulina giving the drink its blue colour, it's also packed full of coconut milk, manuka honey, ginger, cinnamon and other delicious flavours to make sure you'll be hooked after just one sip.

Shoalwater a bit far to travel for a cuppa? Why not make a day of it and jump on one of the five minute cruises across the sea to Penguin Island so you can try and spot a mermaid, or perhaps just a dolphin or two.

Want more? Here are Perth's best cafes for non-coffee drinkers.

Blood, Sweat And Fears At Circus WA

Ever since The Greatest Showman came out, we have been seriously considering joining the circus, so it’s not surprising that we’re pumped about Blood, Sweat and Fears presented by Yip Yip Circus. But this isn’t your usual glam circus show. It’s an introspective look into the life of a circus artist, from everything to spinal injuries, broken wrists, dropping with sweat, the adrenaline and more—so it might be just what we need to remind us we’re not quite ready to join the circus. Get your tickets here.

Beer Club At The Left Bank

What better way to kick off February than with the first Beer Club of 2018. Sit back, relax and listen to beer stories, taste the wide range of beer on offer and enjoy some eats, what more could you want? Oh, you want a beer glass? No problem, you get to take your own beer glass home—because who doesn’t love free stuff? Tickets are only $10 so what are you waiting for? Book your spot here now.

How To Learn A Language In Perth

How To Learn A Language In Perth

by Lisa Fromont @ The A List | The Urban List

Whether we’re ordering some exotic food, mingling with tourists, or if just want to order a coffee while in Europe, branching out from English has muchos beneficios. There’s no such thing as one-language-fits-all, and nothing makes a person more interesting than when they can roll their R’s when they need to. With this in mind, we’ve put together six ways to learn a new language in Sydney.

#1 Let Your Language Teacher Sleep On Your Couch

You’ve heard it a hundred times: practice makes perfect! But, chances are, you’re living with people who have no idea what to say when you ask them “Parlez vous francais?” (stating the obvious a bit here, but the answer would be “Non”). The good news is, there are travellers out there whose first language is the one you want to learn—and they’re looking for somewhere to stay. TalkTalkBnb lets you connect with such travellers. They get a place to crash, and your French skills become magnifique!

#2 Download An App

Bless smartphones. Like everything in our lives, learning a language can be cheap, fun and easy, thanks to genius apps. Duolingo, Babbel and Memrise are just three interactive language classes that’ll fit in your pocket—and they’re always ready when you are. We’re a city of busy folk, so scheduling in language lessons ain’t always an option. Having an app means you can slip a lesson into any free slot in your timetable, and most have features that let you track your progress and learn with friends.

#3 Get Some Amigas Into It

If you know a special multilingual someone, keep in mind that every Perthling will help you out if you shout them a coffee. Swap a chai latte for some “parler”, and let them make fun of you when you pronounce things wrong—you’ll never stuff it up again. Alternatively, start from scratch with a fellow monolingual friend and learn together. A bit of competition will keep you motivated and very soon you’ll know all the swear words! Whatever the lingo-level of your buddy, they’ll be great for practising with and are guaranteed to keep it fun.

#4 Take A Class

A bit like a gym membership, signing up for classes means you actually have to get off Instagram and get your ass into gear. From Cantonese to Portuguese, there are classes for all sorts of languages in Perth. The Multicultural Language Centre has courses for Italian, French and Portuguese, UWA's Confucius Institute offers courses in Chinese language and culture and Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth offers Indonesian language classes. For those who need a little discipline to keep up with lessons, signing up for a class will keep you on track, and you know they’ll teach you what you really need to learn (how to order fried chicken, hopefully).

#5 Set Some Goals

Most of us want to learn a language because we dream of travelling, but it’s hard to keep our lessons on track when we have no use for our newly-learned phrases. Turn your dreams into boarding passes—there’s nothing like being plopped in the middle of a foreign country to improve your language skills. Seriously though, if you can, make some travel plans. Tourists get mega brownie points if they’ve made an effort to learn the local language and being in a country where it’s a necessity means you’ll pick it up fast. Set a date, and learn as much as you can before you fly out. Once you’re there, mingle with the locals and watch the conversation get better every day.

#6 Ask Ricky Martin For Help

Why do we remember all the lyrics to Party In The USA but we forget how to count past 10 in Spanish as soon as we leave school? Music is the key to memory, folks and, potentially the key to multilingualism. Listen to your favourite songs translated into the language you wanna learn (you can start with nursery rhymes) or you can be your own Ricky Martin and put the phases you want to learn into your favourite songs. For example, want to learn how to flirt with Italian people? Change the words to that iconic Miley ballad from “yeeeeeah it’s a party in the USA” to “yeeeeeah posso unirmi a te?” and you’ll always remember how to flirtatiously ask someone if they come here often. Sparks will fly.

For travel inspo, head here.

A Muddy Good Time With Tsururi Mineral Ghassoul Clay

Pandanmodium | Perth’s Best Pandan Everything

Pandanmodium | Perth’s Best Pandan Everything

by Annalise Bolt @ The A List | The Urban List

It’s mean, it’s green and it’s popping up in dishes all over Perth. This bright South East Asian ingredient will give your fave foods a sweet twist. For the uninitiated—pandan comes from a tropical plant found in South East Asia and creates a bright green colour that looks straight out of Wonka’s factory. There’s good reason this fun food is known as the Asian vanilla—it’s delicious.

Here is Perth’s best pandan everything.

Pandan Brownies | Fatboi Brownies

Cafes across Perth

Why have a plain brownie, when you can add some bright green goodness to that delicious morsel? Let’s be honest, brownies don’t need improving on but this interesting flavour combo will leave you one happy camper. Fatboi Brownies have taken a white chocolate blondey, infused it with pandan and topped it with a layer of coconut jam custard (i.e. kaya). You can find these bad boys at The General Sherman in Murdoch, So They Say in Fremantle and Someday Coffee Co in Floreat.

Pandan Crepes | Chapels on Whatley

This cosy Maylands teahouse is the perfect setting to try all things pandan—with pandan leaf tea, sponge cake, lamingtons, crepes and if you’re lucky, even cheesecake. The best of the bunch is the Malay green pandan coconut crepes served with a mango and passionfruit coulis and drizzled with palm syrup and coconut cream. If tea is your thang, you’ll be sipping to your hearts content with an impressive selection of brews imported from across the globe. The blooming teas (flowers that unfurl as you brew the tea) are absolute beauties. It’s almost inevitable you’ll get completely sidetracked in their shop of Asian antiques.

Coconut Pandan Ice Cream | Bites By D

Mount Hawthorn

Coconut and pandan—what a dream combo. Get around it at Bites by D with their coconut pandan ice cream. It’s served with jackfruit so you’re in for some great South East Asian flavours. It’s impossible not to be caught staring into the desserts cabinet, everything is handmade in store and absolutely stunning.

Pandacotta | Neho

Victoria Park

You’ll be green with envy if you miss out on Neho's pandacotta. It’s topped with salted coconut crumble and comes with a fresh lime coconut granita on the side. This unique dish is the best way to round out a meal of Asian tapas, but if one dessert is never enough give in to that sweet tooth and try all three with the dessert trio.

Pandan Coconut Rice | Nasi Lemak Korner

Como & Mosman Park

Prepare yourself for the ultimate Malaysian feed. Nasi Lemak Korner's pandan coconut rice goes well with umm, everything on the menu and trust us, you’ll tempted to order the whole lot. Their talented team of chefs also teach roti making classes.

Black Rice Pudding With Pandan And Lime Syrup | Sage Cafe

Victoria Park

Summery and sweet, this brekky is best enjoyed soaking up in the sun in their lovely courtyard. Sage Cafe serves up black rice pudding with pandan and lime syrup, coconut cream, summer fruit, macadamia and honeycomb. If you’re dreaming of green, you might find more pandan in their weekend specials and freshly baked muffins.

Vegan Coconut Pandan Ice Cream | Gelato101 Vegan Artisan

Vegans rejoice! You too can enjoy some coconut pandan gelato from the team at Gelato101 Vegan Artisan, a vegan ice cream shop in Cottesloe. These guys also do the beloved doughnut cone from time to time so keep an eye on their Facebook page to find out when it will come back next!

Coconut Pandan Sago | Measure Dessert Bar

Mount Lawley

When you find a place devoted entirely to dessert and drinks, you know you’re onto a good thing. Order the coconut pandan sago at Measure and impress your date with your adventurous palate #socultured. It’s guaranteed to be presented like no other dessert you’ve had and is served with watermelon granita, guava sorbet, coconut gel and dragonfruit.

French Toast With Coconut Pandan Custard | Frisch and Barc

Simply delightful. Frisch and Barc serve up a pretty plate of brioche French toast with mix berry and apple compote, coconut pandan custard and topped with crushed pistachio and shortbread crumble. It goes without saying, this is best paired with a big mug of coffee.

Pandan Rice Dumplings | PappaRich

Various Locations

Be brave and muster up the courage to dig into the exotic dessert at PappaRich. Brace yourself, you’ll be trying organic soy milk with pandan tong yuen (pandan rice dumplings) and longan (a tropical fruit). Trust us, it’s an interesting taste and worth it just for bragging rights. If you prefer your dessert bite-sized (and can’t fit anything else in after your Malaysian feast), try the pandan sesame balls.

Drop Everything: Lush Just Dropped A Bunch Of New Fragrances!

Drop Everything: Lush Just Dropped A Bunch Of New Fragrances!

by Catherine Blake @ The A List | The Urban List

Purveyors of soaps, bath bombs, and that sleepy-time lotion that became a viral sensation, Lush are in the business of pretty things that smell nice. In keeping with that mission statement, Lush are also master perfumers and have just released a slew of new fragrances.

The new spritzables are available in a White Label Range and a Black Label Range, totaling 26 perfumes all up. Each scent is inspired by different art, experiences, emotions or memories of the perfumers and are designed to be gender neutral.

Besides a reputation for good-smelling things, Lush is also one of the more ethical cosmetic companies in Australia and New Zealand, with all vegetarian, cruelty-free, handmade products cluttering up their shelves, and their perfume is no different. Made using pure essential oils and mixed in small batches in Sydney you can rest easy knowing your new scent isn’t a soulless potion.

Because mass-produced fragrances are usually made using solvents, you’ll generally find yourself forking out a packet in order to get a fragrance made with proper essential oils. But in Lush’s case, you can get yourself a premium bottle of fragrance made with bona fide essential oils for a super affordable price.

And in case you hadn’t noticed, this new release of fragrances has landed just in time for Valentine’s Day. Throw in a lip scrub and a long-stemmed rose and he/she’ll be yours for life.

Unfortunately, digital platforms do not lend themselves to sharing olfactory sensations, so you’re just going to have to trust us that this is worth checking out and make sure you linger at the tester bottle. If there’s any left by the time you get there…

All Lush scents are available all year round and via their online store

If you have NFI what this sleepy lotion commotion is, check it out. Your sleep life will thank you...

Horoscopes | Your Co(s)mic Week Ahead

Horoscopes | Your Co(s)mic Week Ahead

by Kate Bartels @ The A List | The Urban List

Will it be money? Love? Will you score an UberEATS discount code? We've got all the big answers this week, guys.

Our advice is to never upset the universe—it can be preeeety brutal if it wants to be. So sit down, strap yourself in and listen up as we tell you what’s *really* written in the stars this week.

Unfortunately, the hot weather has gotten to the people around you, and you’re gonna have some pretty heated arguments this week. We recommend staying out of it though—take a walk home instead and pump out those frustrations. If the temptation of a quarrel gets the better of you, just blame it on being the sassy little Aquarius that you are.

We know we could literally take 100% of the blame for you being constantly broke and never in shape (sorry, not sorry) but this week the universe wants you to hone in the cocktails and the burgs. By all means, treat yo self—just don’t go overboard.

It’s no secret that your usual gym routine is probably thrown out by the disgusting weather we've been having (it's basically only good for frosty fruits and friends with pools). So this week it’s (unfortunately) time to get back on that horse. Good news though Aries, there’s signs of some serious coin in the stars for you.

This week you’ve got the charms of Venus and the sun working in your favour, making you extra charming and irresistible. That means it's a great week to use your ASSets to your advantage and help push certain agendas. You might find yourself in the limelight this week too, so brush up on your Insta poses and don’t forget your fave MAC lip shade.

Hello, feisty little nuggets. This week we have one challenge for you—keep a lid on it and try your very best to keep your opinions to yourself. We can see you rolling your eyes, but trust us on this one. Upsetting the stars is the last thing you want to do. If you’re good this week, there’s some sort of tropical vacay on the cards for you.

Things are looking lucky for you this week, Cancers. Finally! You should either enter one of those multi-million dollar lotteries or buy a ton of Bitcoin. Whatever you decide, it'd be wise to spread the love (read: the sweet cash) to keep the cosmos happy and the good vibes rolling. We think a round of Cosmopolitans is in order.

If bae wakes up on the wrong side of the bed this week, try not to let it get the better of you (or throw a tantrum). Remember, not everything is about you— the cosmos recommend taking your morning coffee to go and giving them some space to cool off. Maybe suggest you’ll cook dinner tonight...or at least shout UberEATS.

It’s time to stop avoiding all responsibilities and get s**t done.  We know that the hot balmy nights are good enough to make you forget you have a life away from rooftop bars, but the universe is begging you to snap out of it. Put the savvy b down and go to a pilates class.

Time to stop the FB essays and keep the #blessed Insta posts to a minimum—your friends are o.v.e.r it. All the stars say your successes are going to your head, and people have had enough of seeing it all over your feed. We know what you’re thinking (“jealous much?”) but just for a little while, give it a rest.

Uh oh, your tinder date hasn’t called you back They haven’t even opened your Snapchat. (We know, they were pretty easy on the eyes). Pretty or not, it’s best to not plan an accidentally-on-purpose run in at the local coffee shop. They aren’t worth it. Grab some mates and head out instead.

You are killing 2018, Sagi’s, but remember—slow and steady wins the race. You don’t want to use all the gas in the tank before the year has even started. This week, chill out and settle in on the couch. Netflix and chill never sounded so good.

Does “new year, new me” sound familiar? Give it up, Capricorns. Those 5am gym sessions are doing nothing accept tiering you out. You rock the way you are, so take this week to grab a giant slice of cheesecake, sleep in and forget you ever knew what HITT meant.

31 Relationship Deal Breakers For Every Perth Foodie

31 Relationship Deal Breakers For Every Perth Foodie

by Ellen Seah @ The A List | The Urban List

Some people consider not wanting tiny humans a relationship deal breaker, others won't date a person that can't make them laugh. But committing these deadly sins will see you swiftly kicked to the curb if you're dating a foodie. Here are the 31 relationship deal breakers for every Perth foodie.

#1 They don’t share food.

#2 The words “I’m not hungry” are uttered more than once a year, the only acceptable occasion being post-Christmas lunch, dinner, and dessert. Even then we’d prefer not to hear it.

#3 They don’t plan dinners 24-hours in advance. Who doesn’t know what they’re eating for dinner when they wake up in the morning?!

#4 They don’t like waiting more than 15 minutes for a table.

#5 They’re not willing to wait more than an hour for a table because that’s (air-quote) “ridiculous”. Pssht.

#6 They tell you that you spend too much money on food. Don’t tell me how to live my life.

#7 They criticise you for eating authentic street food when you travel, and throughout the next day when you inevitably regret eating that dish which possibly had some kind of meat in it and possibly didn’t.

#8 They don’t like chocolate. Just leave.

#9 They say, “but you just ate”. So what?

#10 They order the first thing they see on the menu. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#11 They ask you if you’re “seriously going to eat that”.

#12 When you offer them the last bite of your amazing meal, they eat it.

#13 They eat any of the following: low-fat frozen meals, beef instant noodles, and/or home brand vanilla ice cream.

#14 They don’t eat out at least once a week.

#15 They don’t understand how the highlight of your day can be eating dinner and then sleeping.

#16 They don’t understand what “the hype is about cheese”. You realise they’re not so grate.

#17 They don’t consider dessert a necessity. But then what are you supposed to look forward to after dinner?

#18 They get embarrassed when you take pictures of food.

#19 Sometimes they skip meals because they “just forget”.

#20 They gift you things that don’t involve eating food, being around food or making food.

#21 They don’t understand the brilliant concept of snacking.

#22 They don’t understand your obsessive-compulsive checking of the fridge when you’re at home. Obviously, you’re just seeing if anything has changed in there.

#23 They only ever order salad.

#24 They incorrectly pronounce name’s of dishes, and then get annoyed when you try to helpfully correct them. Because you’re a caring, loving person.

#25 They believe that Subway/McDonalds/other fast food chains are acceptable Friday night date spots.

#26 They order steak well done.

#27 They remove cheese from their burgers.

#28 They don’t eat food that everyone should definitely eat all the time, like pizza, ice-cream, and cake.

#29 They only ask for a “sliver of cake”.

#30 They ask if you “really need another glass of wine”.

#31 They buy hot anything from a 7/11 or servo.

Must-See Movies This February

Must-See Movies This February

by Grace Noles @ The A List | The Urban List

It’s that time of the month again: new films are on the way for your viewing pleasure! There’s romance, adventure, horror, comedy and tragedy heading soon to a theatre near you.

Head to the airconned cinemas, grab a frozen coke, and escape the summer heat by watching one of the great flicks coming out in February!

Black Panther

Marvel is back with their latest blockbuster, Black Panther, featuring a star-studded cast of Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Martin Freeman. Heir to the Wakanda throne, T’Challa must face treachery and danger as the Black Panther to take his rightful place as King and protect the safety of his people. If Black Panther is half as good as Marvel’s previous work then this one will be a not to miss movie of the year!

Game Night

Any movie with Rachel McAdams is going to be good and we’re sure this one is no exception. Game Night is an action-packed comedy featuring McAdams and Jason Bateman who have their game night flipped upside down and thrown into real life danger when a murder mystery game turns all too real. Book yourself in for Game Night if you’re up for a dark humour and an adventure-filled watch.

Molly’s Game

Jessica Chastain is hitting our screens portraying Molly Bloom who was the world’s biggest poker entrepreneur from 2003 to 2013 with a ring including people like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, and Macaulay Culkin. Think female Wolf of Wall Street and you’re on the right track. Starring alongside Chastain to tell Molly’s growing empire and ultimate downfall is Michael Cera, Idris Elba, and Chris O’Dowd—so you know it’s gotta be good!

Fifty Shades Freed

The much-anticipated third instalment of the Fifty Shades of Grey saga is finally hitting the big screen in February. Fifty Shades Freed will see Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey dealing with married life and the new relationship dynamic that comes along with it. We say get out the popcorn and binge the first two films for a refresher before booking your tickets ASAP!

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built

Horror movie lovers rejoice, February has delivered with the thriller Winchester! Helen Mirren plays a grieving widow that builds a house to home all the spirits she believes she’s being haunted by. When visitors start to come by the mansion and pick up on the weird happenings, things get intense fast. For the thrill seekers and psychiatrically spooked folk out there, Winchester will be right up your alley!

Lady Bird

Following its initial release overseas in November, Lady Bird has gone on to win multiple best picture awards, making it one of the most talked about films of this awards season—so naturally we’re very excited for this one! It’s a coming of age movie featuring Saoirse Ronan in the lead role as hard headed “Lady Bird” and Laurie Metcalf as her pleading mother. If Perks of Being a Wallflower or Juno were amongst your fave films then Lady Bird will be perfect for you.
