Saigon nightlife: What to do in Saigon when the night falls down

Ho Chi Minh City, widely known as Sai Gon and the second biggest city in Vietnam, is a metropolis on the move. When the night falls down, the city turns into a giant party with tons of things to discover. As a thriving hub, Saigon works hard and plays hard. Follow our Saigon nightlife guide to see what are the best things to do if you’re going to spend a night here. 1. Drinks and food served at rooftop bars here are unsurprisingly on the pricier side, however, is still relatively inexpensive. With excellent service, stylish ambience, and lively crowd, a night out (or two) at Ho Chi Minh’s most popular rooftop bars is definitely well worth the extra expense. While some are highlighted by […]

For the past several years, the use of new point-of-sales (POS) technologies, like Square, that use a touchscreen have become popular among businesses. These systems are sleek, easy to use, and have decreased the length of in-store credit card transactions. For me, they have also done one more thing – raise my self-consciousness about not tipping. One reason shop owners love these systems, I assume, is that they increase tips. After the cashier swipes your card, they flip the screen around to face you and you see a screen that looks like this: Before these systems, a customer would have

Eating in the Food Capital of Malaysia – George Town, Penang

by pvrouvas @ The Only Pete | Travel & Technology Blog

Leaving Southern Thailand behind, the journey to Malaysia involved an overnight ferry, four different mini-vans, and the most unorganized customs/border service I experienced in Southeast Asia. And that’s saying a lot considering the tourist swindling operations at the Laos border. In the customs office, the border officials requested our immunizations card, something the United States does not provide. After denying their request, we let them take our temperatures and they asked us if we had the Zika virus – of course we all replied that we did not. After sitting in the office for 45 minutes while they copied our information by hand

Vietnamese cuisine: 5 unique ways Vietnamese cook their rice

by Ha My @ Blog | Eviva Tour Vietnam

Rice, or “cơm” in Vietnamese, is absolutely an indispensable part of Vietnamese cuisine, just like many other Asian countries. However, that does not mean rice is the same around Asia. Throughout the history, Vietnamese have created a wide range of ways to cook and serve their rice, base on the culture and ingredients of each local. Some you may not encounter anywhere else, some are just a wonderful elevation of normal types of rice dishes. Let’s discover the most popular 5 dishes of rice of Vietnam that likely to be on your favourite list. 1. Lam Rice – the specialty of Tay Bac Lam Rice is considered to be the one-of-the-kind dish of Vietnamese minority in the northwestern region.  It is considered as the food that represents this most natural and untouched area of Vietnam, because of its elegant taste of the cool streams and the fragrance of the borderless bamboo forests. Originally, Lam Rice was invented by the men who had to go on extremely long trips into the forest. Among their equipment, a bamboo pipe full of Lam Rice was their most valuable asset. You may find it’s interesting in the unique way of cooking. Glutinous rice after cleaned and soaked in water for 6-8 hours […]

US blogger recommends 7 must-visit destinations in Vietnam

He often updates his travel experiences, including his memorable trip to this S-shape country. In this article, we would like to introduce the 7 top destinations in Vietnam that Pete has recommended. 1. Ha Giang Riding motorbike around Ha Giang is one of the experiences Pete loves the most in Vietnam. Ha Giang, to the very north of the country, is rather a place to escape from the busy noisy city. The roads here bend around the limestone mountains, through the valleys with terraced rice fields and into the town. The journey may take from 3 to 5 days depending on the path you choose to get on. 2. Dong Ba Market in Hue Dong Ba Market is located in the east of Hue city, along the Huong River. At this market, you can enjoy countless Hue specialties for about 40,000 VND. Quickly pick a seat in the crowded market and order your favorite dishes from the food court. by Ha My @ Blog | Eviva Tour Vietnam

Vietnam is famous for fine architectural Buddhism pagodas and temples but not so many people know about unique churches and cathedral throughout this country. With the unique architecture, these churches in Vietnam have made quite an impact on the tourists who love architecture. 1. Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon Many people don’t know that the full name of Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica is Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception. Through many years, despite many ups and downs of history, the Cathedral in the heart of Saigon still look splendid, solemn and magnificent. For many people, It is considered as the masterpiece architecture of Sai Gon. All building materials of this cathedral including cement, steel, and screw were brought from France. The outside of cathedral was made of Marseille brick which still keeps its colour till now. The architecture of Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica is fascinating and precise, from the wall, glass window, the bell, the Madonna… Every pattern of the cathedral follows Roman and Gothic architecture, blending both solemn and refined. 2. Saint Joseph Cathedral in Hanoi Probably everyone in Hanoi, whether being a Christian or not, all knows about St. Joseph’s Cathedral. The cathedral was designed in Gothic […]

Usually, a Banh mi will be stuffed with pâté, slices of pork pie, mayonnaise, coriander, cucumber, and pickled carrots and daikon. Laying Low in Koh Tao

by pvrouvas @ The Only Pete | Travel & Technology Blog

To be blunt, our trip to Koh Tao was nothing like the scuba-filled tropical adventure we had been building up to for months. Rather than getting cheap scuba training in one of the diving capitals of the world, Stu and I sat in our hotel room and watched Netflix for two days – he with a brutal cold and I with the stomach acid of an overweight, chain-smoking, grapefruit juice chugger paired with the remnants of my bronchitis. Neither of us were physically fit to dive nor did we have the mental drive. To top it off, we realized our visas expired in a couple days

by Thu Ngo Vu @ Beebee

According to World Geography, the surname ‘Nguyễn’ ranks the fourth most popular one in the world.
